Quick and Easy Way to Propagate Pothos Cuttings and Vines in Soil or Water
I meant to say "chlorine" instead of "fluoride" in this video. I'm always obsessing over fluoride. My apologies.
Keep the soil moist, but not soggy while the cuttings are developing roots. Roots should begin to appear within a few weeks.
If using tap water, allow the water to sit out for 24 hours to reduce the chlorine content in the water.
Pothos enjoy bright, indirect sunlight and environments with higher humidity. If you live in a dry climate like I do, you can mist your pothos daily with water.

Allow the clippings to heal over for two or three days prior to planting, or insert them directly into dry soil with good draining capabilities, such as a sand or perlite mix. If your clippings have healed over for a couple of days, add a bit of water to the soil and keep it moist, but not soggy. If you choose the water propagation method, change the water every few days. Quick and Easy Way to Propagate Christmas or Thanksgiving Cactus (Zygocactus) Cuttings

Christmas & Thanksgiving cacti clippings should have at least 3 sections on them for the best growth. Omgosh didn't know I need rooting hormone will it not work I can't buy some until Tuesday
How long do you keep it moist?
I’ve rooted these for years just in regular soil I’ve found top soil grows them good
Thank you for sharing this. Some great tips and ideas here. Good to see something visually too rather than reading the heaps of info online.
Interessant, muss ich auch mal probieren. Ich habe nämlich einen gelb blühenden, den würde ich gerne vermehren. 👍
It propagates with one section. It just takes a little longer.
I put mine right into soil but have never used rooting hormone
My friend had one section fall off of her Easter Cactus and gave it to me. It's propagated and it's now growing a new section.
I'm so glad I found this video. I recently pruned my pathos because she had vines with balding in the middle. I clipped where the balding began and then added the tips of the vines directly back into the soil. I did it for vanity reasons (the vines still have about 3-4 feet of viable leaves left), and I didn't want her looking naked😂 I'm glad I made the right choice. I even cut the nodes of the bald spots and added those to water to see if I can get roots😊
when You propagate stems in soil, the stems turn yellow.
There might be another reason for that happening ?
can you do it with several cuttings off a single vine, or can it be only one cut from the end? For some reason all of my pothos plant died except one really long vine, so I wonder if I could cut it into several small cuttings..
You deserve so much more than 67 likes. I’ve really been struggling with mine. This is an old video and you just saved my butt. Thank you so much for posting
I'm trying to propagate these now, did you have an update how these turned out? I've had such rotten luck with propagating these, but I was doing it all wrong. I must have been drowning these poor things
What soil u r using for this Christmas cactus potting
Mine does fine in regular potting soil mixed with Perlite.
I find this to be the easiest way of propagation. Thanks for sharing.
Oh please, the clippings are just fine. Use all of them and in no time they'll take root! 💚Nice of the mother-in-law to share her plant; you sounded ungrateful.
Even one segment will propagate just fine. I have one little segment that fell off of my friends little Easter Cactus, and it's rooted and now growing a new little segment of its own, within a couple of months.
Ungrateful? Damn, nobody should ever be neutral or discuss the nuances of something having a higher chance in another state around you.
Good grief. Throw your family under the bus on the internet.
I did this yesterday and then thought maybe I should research a bit😅 glad I did it right- root hormone and all
I never understood rooting any kind of cutting in water. Potting soil or directly into the ground always works best for me. I do live in Florida though so the conditions are always right.
Skip the gravel in the pot. You'll create a perched water table which will increase the likeliness of root rot. ruclips.net/video/mNTjSLfwRDw/видео.html
Absolutely fantastic idea the way you grow your pothos plants .
Nice video 👍🏻 watch my Christmas cactus plant video in my channel.
Thank you! I need this video.
I just found your video and i just made a video yesterday on the exact same way to plant thanksgiving cactus! The only difference was i used two leaf and not three. Hopefully i still have good results and if it Doesn't turn out, I will be sure to do it your way! Thanks for the video.😊
How did it turn out? A piece of my friend's Easter Cactus fell off, so she gave it to me to attempt to save it. It is now rooted and has a new segment growing.
@@sykotikmommy i got about a 80% success rate and one actually bloomed last November with 1 flower!
@thomaslawrenceallplantsare7441 that is amazing! My friend gave me 2 of the 3 little segments that fell off of hers and the one she kept rooted and is growing now, like 1 of the 2 she gave me. So it was a 75% success rate.
A little bit of rooting hormone goes a long way, you don’t need a whole lot
Thank you so much, great video. God bless!
So many good tips. Thank you 😊
Can you plant some cuttings to root in soil with some vines that are already rooted? I'm worried that keeping the soil moist to promote the rooting of the cuttings will cause the ones that are already rooted to rot :(
Hey, did you ever find out with this ? 🙂
Thank you for the video!!
Not one of these videos tell you how often to water after planting a new baby. Fucking joke
Well idk dick ahem.. I mean, Jimmy… she made sure to mention not to over water them. So maybe wait until the top soil is dry and then give them a bit. It all depends on their fcuking environment. Which means it differs with what area you live, time of year, temperature you keep it at your home… so whatever she would’ve said would’ve been wrong for someone… which is why she mentioned not to overwater… You seem like the hateful type. You know, the type that is only satisfied when you M-bate twice a year because that’s the maximum your body will allow proper blood flow(karma for being a massive prick)… Who’s the fcuking joke now? Fcuk off, Goofy 🤡
Thanks tiny woman
What a beautiful green pot! The yellow one, too.
Very informative thank you. My pothos have been on my window sill for about a month now with no root growth although more nodes are emerging. Can I try the soil method or should I wait?
I want to asked the same question but I'm afraid like you I won't get an answer🤔 My spider cuttings rotted in the water🤷
Hey fellow Coloradoan! Can these be kept outside year round? I’m amazed at the succulents that survive and come back in spring. Things we’d swear probably wouldn’t make it. This might not be one of them.?
I think they’ll die and not come back if you left them outside in Colorado over winter. They well inside in low light, with very little water during the winter
This video is so awesome! Thank you! ruclips.net/video/gmeEJr6L0oM/видео.html
@@joannatv0413 There’s no English subtitles. Pretty plant.
Hi tiny lady
Is this the same for Swiss cheese vines?
Nice videos thank you!

Do you keep the soil moist the whole time? I've not had success in being able to root my cuttings in soil, I've tried dry soil wet soil, I just don't know what it should be and for how long. I've also not been able to take a cutting that was rooted in water into the soil and it stay alive. I heard this is a common issue because it can be hard for a plant to adjust to growing in a dry medium after rooting in a wet medium. Please help! All the videos I see only cover the beginning but they never talk about what the soil should be like and for how long! Thank you! 😁
This is a bit late, but I have a sort of answer for ya. I recently got a little golden pothos cutting that had a root that was about an inch and a half. I, being the unknowing newbie, stuck it in some soil and watered it without letting it get any longer, and I eventually rotted the root out. Luckily enough, I put him in some water and he grew another root. I tried to put him in soil again, when the root was 3-3.5 inches long and had some offshoots, and he’s thriving. What I did differently was I used Miracle-Gro moisture control, and didn’t water him for a while (it was pretty moist already). I also made sure to not press the soil down around the roots, so the roots could get some oxygen. When it was time to water, I actually pulled him out and used a spray bottle to moisten the soil around the hole where he was. Finally, a couple days ago, I made a mix with a bunch of perlite and the same soil, and repotted him - he’s still doing well. TL;DR: moisture control soil, let roots get long with some offshoots in water (if a new root is popping out all the better) and keep it moist to the touch but not wet wet.
ruclips.net/video/c-BK9KXVnB4/видео.html I also found a video on it! This guy’s normally pretty good on explaining things, so I hope this helps :)
Sorry, one more thing: Plants rooted in perlite or a soilless mix may transplant better. I’ve not actually tried perlite yet, so I don’t have a personal experience with it
Why do you think mine died?
Awesome!🌿
This was so useful! Thank you so much :)
I cut some clippings from my marble queen and put them back in the same pot with the mother plant, but some of the stems/nodes rotted 🤷🏻♀️ I kept the soil evenly moist not soggy. Not sure what went wrong. They were very healthy cuttings to start with.
Cuttings root faster in humidity. Is your plant an indoor plant?
Cool
