Ok - I'm going to try to break it down, but I'm not perfect and I could be wrong about anything - I highly recommend doing research to confirm if what I say is accurate. I'll do my best with what I understand. Psalm 126 1 When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, We were like those who dream. 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, And our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” 3 The Lord has done great things for us, And we are glad. I'm going to present scripture that I think is relevant / related to this portion of Psalm 126, then I will try to summarize what I think it means. Isaiah 29:8 It shall even be as when a hungry man dreams, And look-he eats; But he awakes, and his soul is still empty; Or as when a thirsty man dreams, And look-he drinks; But he awakes, and indeed he is faint, And his soul still craves: So the multitude of all the nations shall be, Who fight against Mount Zion.” Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” ^ My summary: After God rescues His people from their enemies on earth (spiritual beings) and has delivered them into safety like all the troubles were just a dream, we who love the Lord will praise Him! I'll continue with more of Psalm 126: Psalm 126:4 Bring back our captivity, O Lord, As the streams in the South. And here is the scripture I think is relevant: John 16:33 - Jesus speaking These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 8:34, 36 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. ^ My summary: Of those who are still on earth and face tribulations, we ask God to rescue us - especially from our sin. When we choose any sin over God, we allow that sin to become our master. Even when we're sick and tired of facing the consequences of our sins, it is difficult to turn away from them because there are spiritual forces that drive us toward suffering and death. The good news is that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and rose again 3 days later triumphing over death. He calls all to repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand - rescue, healing, casting out of demons, resurrection and eternal life is available for all through the Son of God, the Messiah and Savior of the world. Now the last portion of Psalm 126: Psalm 126:5-6 5 Those who sow in tears
Shall reap in joy. 6 He who continually goes forth weeping,
Bearing seed for sowing,
Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,
Bringing his sheaves with him. And the scripture I believe relates: Matthew 13:18-23 18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” John 15:18-19 18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” Revelation 22:12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. ^ My summary: Following Jesus is not always easy. Some even face death for their faith. God Himself will reward those who serve Him - His word has a lot to say about rewards for obedience. Sometimes it will be difficult - even supernaturally challenging - but we live by faith and not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7) We trust in the word of God (Hebrews 4:12) and our God will finish what He started in us, according to His word. (Philippians 1:6) I am not God, so my best efforts may very well fall short in explaining this scripture - but I hope this helps.
