I've had my ecoflow Dpro a couple weeks. They are expensive and what you don't see are the software issues, updates, think Microsoft, having to reset etc. I was very surprised at the learning curve to have what's basically a big expensive battery with an inverter. Having said that yes, it's a sophisticated piece that makes me feel more secure having it. @sled you really need to figure out what's important to you or what you must have in time of need or an outtage. I've a good sized maytag refrigerator w freezer, I need my wifi, home security system , couple wireless inexpensive security cameras, and at least 1 window ac. I'm in Vegas, have a dog with heart condition... the desert where it's often 115.. no ac is not an option for most part. Aside from the window ac.. everything else I listed could be run on a much smaller and less expensive solar/battery generator. You could add a couple of fans and get by easily with maybe 1000 ways or less. Of course you'd want to have a couple solar panels. I'm very new at this and don't fully grasp all the electronic stuff just yet. What I've come to realize is the ecoflow portable panels in this video I feel are extremely expensive especially for the low wattage they put out. I think 2 or 3 200 watt mono panels even at $259 ea is much more affordable than these but they wouldn't be as portable although they can be easily moved. Things you want to consider. How much space do you have to store a generator and or solar panels? Possibly a small portable gas or propane generator, much cheaper, could work for you but.. you'd need fuel.. there's up keep, more noise, need storage etc. I live in a mobile home park.. have limited storage and have concerns in my area, it's not the greatest neighborhood, so I don't really want others knowing I've a generator if SHTF. I figured by the time I bought another small storage shed, paid for all the stuff to sound proof, ventilation, etc. I'd not save all that much. Using a solar Gen, with panels you can save and reduce on your electric bill if you can run a few things using it daily. Just thought I'd give you some food for thought. I had, still do, second thoughts about all the money I spent on ecoflow DPro because money's tight but I'm glad I got it. I will get panels in the next week or so.. saving for them now. I just saw another tuber doing a review on a different brand solar Gen with I believe 2000 watts, maybe 1500.. with a discount and it's like $1,200. It's a special for a few days and using his coupon code. I'll see if I can find the video and share. I'm not affiliated and don't know the guy. Just someone who I get info from with solar gens etc.

@@thisnthat8331 I researched large capacity solar batteries and this fit my needs the best along with having high ratings and reviews for quality, performance, etc. It does have a steep learning curve since EcoFlow doesn't have an adequate user manual to cover questions that come up.

@@thisnthat8331 Thanks so much for taking the time to write back, I'm also brand new to all of this stuff and been trying to learn it and at times it's somewhat confusing for me because I don't know anything about electric or how it works so any help is nice to know. Thanks again.

I considered rivets but the zip ties are easier to remove when I need to replace the tarp.

I thought about that but had a hard time figuring out how the ‘reeling in’ mechanism. I didn’t want it to be big and gaudy. Also I’d like for the opening in the pipe to be sealed off to rain. It’s a good idea

@@nick4au Doesn’t have to be big, the cut for the tarp can be under so it’s not easy to see and won’t hold water. As for reeling, it can be a hand reel or fix up some tip to fit a power drill. The center pipe for reeling can be really small with a smaller conduit just enough to support the strength. Tarp should rope in and out nicely and neatly without having to use a big pvc. I’m for the idea except one part, I still don’t want a big ol pvc hanging over my roof, it’s just not aesthetically pleasing to me. I’d rather see something of a different shape, like a 270 awning folded into its bag. Unless u bag the pipe? Hmm

@@lmt-adventures Its definitely function over fashion. Since it's on a ladder rack on a full size truck it's not that bad.

It does seem small on a full size truck.

VIRTUALLY no hardware come to think of it, other than the U-bolts to hold the pipe on.

4" black ABS pipe, female threaded adapters, male threaded caps, 1", 3/4" and 1/2" EMT conduit, tarp, u-bolts with plate, velcro cable ties, 8" black cable ties, small hand saw and nylon string for guide wires. I used a drill bit to create the holes in the 1" conduit by drilling a circle of them and knocking out the middle.

Or add eye bolts along the rack that correspond to where the eyelets are on the tarp. Then hook a small carabiner to each eyelet on that side of the tarp. Leave the carabiners on the tarp when you store it. Quick and easy way to connect and remove the tarp.

I had a similar idea using cable clamps and carabiners. The eye bolts would definitely be more secure.

Yes I did! A 10'x8' awning for $100. You won't find that anywhere.

They are recloseable velcro strips and are available on Amazon, Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.
