How would you rank this compared to your other designs? Great videos!
Sorry for the dumb question but...how do I attach to my TV? 😂
Seems to me i should ne able to make and antenna out of the aluminum siding on my house is this possible, if so how.
To make a proper antenna, you'd need to cut the aluminum into strips and trim them to the size your antenna design requires. Just attaching the existing siding to a piece of coax may give you some sort of signal, but probably very limited
I have a question, aluminum seems to be the right material for and antenna, o.k my house is covered with it, can I use this as and antenna.
Antennas are tuned to the frequencies you are trying to receive. A house covered in siding wouldn't be tuned to any TV frequency.
I purchased a roof mount antenna (FSA-3806), that works quite well, except it does not get VHF-Low. I have been following your videos and I have a question...does the VHF-Low antenna for channel 6 (66 1/8") need to be a certain distance from the reflector? Thank you.
If you are adding a reflector element to an antenna, the basic guidelines is to space it .20 of the frequency wavelength you want to receive. In actual practice, this distance may vary a bit.
😮wow. 😂 simply marvelous darling, simply marvelous! 😆👍🎉.h. n . Year!
😄👍
Campers are junk now! Not built very well, so I am just going to buy a dual axle cargo trailer and do a light conversion on it.
That is a really good option if you have the skill, time and money. That way you get exactly what you want, built the way you want it. Have fun building it!
@@mrhoptoit7835 Not going cost that much and not that complex of a conversion. A 14-foot cargo dual axle is $6,000 new and then I just going to put a sink and some cabinets in the front and cut some windows out. Just going to use cots for the beds. I looked at tons of different campers and all the same thing I am hearing is cheap junk builds. I need the trailer for hauling also.
Sometimes simple is best. I'd love to see some pics of the finished conversion.
I appreciate your videos, and I have learned some things. I have a question concerning a Yagi antenna I already have. It works fine, but I was wondering if I could improve it somehow by increasing the length of the aluminum elements already on it. I've heard these things are made with precise measurements, but do you think replacing a 4 foot element with a 6 or 8 foot elements might bring in more channels from further distances? Thanks.
The element lengths are specific in length as they are tuned to the frequencies you are trying to receive. Increasing the lengths would probably end up reducing your reception. Instead, you can try raising or repositioning the antenna, or maybe adding a good preamp system. Thanks for watching my channel.
I like the way you use such simple items to mock up your idea antenna. A real simple way fella. NICE.
Thanks VF
Is this better than a $20 one off Amazon? All these parts start to add up.
This antenna does a very good job at pulling in more distant UHF signals in a particular direction. Whether it's better depends on your situation and location. Thanks for watching.
I built a gray hoverman antenna out of 8 gauge copper wire it is the best antenna I've ever had.
Thanks for watching
MR. Hop To It, keep on making great videos and make sure you have yourself a Happy New Year and hopefully we both will have a many to celebrate too. Peace vf
Happy New Year to you too, VF.
Mine is coat hanger antenna I get 54 channels in my area with a signal gain booster which helps some
It sounds like you have a great setup!
@mrhoptoit7835 yeah I made 2 of them for my tv 2.5 short one and a 4 foot one both works fine I only use the short one right now use the other for backup
It is rather well known that element thickness increases antenna bandwidth. In this instance this is likely to be little importance. RF travels on the surface of the wire so the surface area of the outside of the wire will have some effect. This also is likely of small importance. The effects of element characteristics ( wire material and wire thickness)can be modeled in programs such as EZ-NEC.
Thanks for the comment.
Attic
It will work well in your attic. Thanks for watching.
Very impressive. I do not know how you learned this info. You surely helped me. I love to watch a person that has skill. Thanks again.
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching my channel.
I’m going to try this. I just ordered some baluns from Amazon.
Good luck! Let me know how it turns out.
Do you have hills/trees where you are?
I plan to try the pie pan setup
Lots of trees, but a fairly level area.
What happens when a bird shits on it? I mean sits on it 😂 lol
Lol
All good except I would not use a cheap BALUN like that. To go through all this trouble and use a cheap transformer in my opinion is pointless. Just my two cents worth
That is actually a Winegard matching transformer that I use on this antenna. I do have an episode on comparing different matching transformers . Thanks for watching my channel.
3:06... I have those same pliers. They were my fathers. They are one of my favourite tools I use it quite often 😅
Thanks for the comment
Can i make the diameter smaller and have the copper wire loop two or three times?
The antenna circumference is tuned for a majority of UHF channels. You can try reducing this dimension by 1/2 . Thanks for watching.
You needed a preamp on that booster at the antenna
The idea was just to see if it would work by itself, and it sort of does, but you are correct. Thanks for watching.
UHF Loop antenna
Yup. Thanks for watching
Where to get the transformer??
They are easy to get online. I order mine on Amazon.
Since you used tin flashing for the reflector on the octagon antenna, how well would it work for the reflector on this antenna vs the 1/2" wire mesh?
Peeformance wise there would be very little difference. Thanks for watching.
Great job WGBH for going to Low-VHF … I’m missing PBS 2, so glad no WGBX is UHF
Thanks for watching.
While I love the simplicity of what you've done here, I gotta wonder what it would do for those of us who are geographically challenged and if you have suggestions on how to improve a wide angle signal when mountains present a challenge. I'm not sure where you are located, but I'm in central Pennsylvania. While I can point an antenna in different directions to get signals from anywhere just outside of Philadelphia all the way to Hagerstown, MD (I only got this once), I can never seem to get more then a handful of real channels at one time. By real channels, I mean the core ones: ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. Not that the others aren't nice, but the idea is to see local sports channels and the news.
Sounds like a tough situation. I always suggest starting by checking out you location on rabbitears.info. That will give you a better idea what you could receive at your location. My channel has a bunch of different antennas designs for different situations.
NICE video for the FM stereo receiver. Simple antenna to make too. Peace MHTI. vf
Thanks, VF.
This is a great idea that show how perseverance makes innovation happen.
Thanks, VF.
Would stacking this design say 4 deep really increase the range and gain MHTI ?? Thanks
VF, you always have great thoughts and ideas!
@@mrhoptoit7835 Would you think that this idea would work ??? Any specific way to connect multiple antennas like this Sir ?? Thank you for your time Sir. vf
Good video Sir
Thanks
Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching my channel.
Great idea!
Glad you think so!
Wow that was great idea, and with your expertise you made it look so easy. Now you got a big fridge. Another happy camper! lol
Thanks! The extra refrigerator makes a big difference.
Never took to camping, however we somewhat did on a boat. After 15 years, 5 boats later, than the 55ft that we lived on year round in Ct, for four years, we grew tired of it. Camping and boating are about the same, however the boat loved gas. lol
Towing loves gas, too..lol. I've had boats before, which I loved, but we get more use from our campers. Thanks for watching.
This video is giving me such strong summer in the '90s nostalgia
Thanks
is this legal
Over the air TV signals are for consumer use. It's perfectly legal to receive and watch broadcast television.
@@mrhoptoit7835 awesome thank you bro
Has this been tested for the range and vhf/uhf signal strength? Does it need a preamp for increased signal?
Yes, it's been tested. This antenna is designed primarily for UHF reception, and works well both with and without a pre-amp. It's nominal range is within 40 miles. Link to full build and testing is posted in the comments.
In my experiment on my channel the results were the reverse. The $1.00 Balun performed better according to the signal meter in the converter box. I even went so far as to put the data in a table to show my measurements.
I have already watched and liked your video, Ken. I am puzzled by your results, but it proves again that specific antennas in specific locations may act differently than expected. Good luck on your channel. Yes, I subscribed!
@@mrhoptoit7835 I also was puzzled. I had expected the more expensive one to work better. The purpose of the was going to be to advise people to buy the brand name BALUN.
Thank you very much he made this very easy to understand
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
What is the receiver rrange for this antenna? Is it helpful to add an amp?
This is a small antenna with limited range - normally within 30 miles of the transmitter. Using amplifiers or pre-amps are totally dependent on your local situation ( signals strength, terrestrial interference, cell signal interference, etc.) so, while they can be useful, its just best to try one and see how it performs. Thanks for watching
Is there a DIY antenna for like 80-100 miles?
Check out the antenna comparison video I have - ruclips.net/video/42ZAEhKsBVs/видео.html It may help you decide which antenna is best for you. Afterwards, links to each antenna's build video are all listed in the description. Have fun.
Thanks Sir. And thanks for being there. @@mrhoptoit7835
Do you happen to have the invoice or part number or anything that can help Forest River find this part. 17 texts later and they still can find it. I need the left rear please.
I do not know the part number, as I ordered through a dealership. I've responded to your email.
Thanks for sharing 👍💯

Thanks
Looks like a good place to camp out, it seems that they do have to improve on the lighting a bit, but hey they had garbage pickup! lol
It's a relaxing place to camp. Thanks for watching
Great job! thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching my channel.
Yes and: Don't get put off if the menus don't look like that. You may have to google to find the method for your TV if it isn't obvious but this is not rocket science. Also: Buy a "BALUN" or "Matching transformer". They only cost about a dollar.
Thank, Ken.
This one looks like a great spot when traveling through the area. I'll add this one to the list. Nice job.
Thanks. Yes, we enjoyed it there.
The Carolinas are really nice area to enjoy camping. The smell of the pines when the due comes in the early evening. Takes me back a few years when we were playing poker and I won 500 smakers. The people are really nice too. Nice video MHTI. Peace....... v
Thanks VF!
