DIY How to Remove Blade Etches from GEC Knives!

Here's how to polish or sand away your etches on your GEC pocket knife. Often GEC etches can be off-putting and detract from the classy nature of a blade. Using this method you can remove them and keep your blade looking clean! All you need is 600 & 800 grit sandpaper, a keep eye, patience and some elbow grease! That's nor a Blade Forums etch, btw. It's a Blade Forums tang stamp. But you are dead right about the actual blade etch. It's hideous, and I polished mine off as soon as I got it. Also oiled the wood to make it darker and glossier, and made the bolster a bit shinier. So all done, and a pocket knife that's as close to perfect as you could want. Hope you're still enjoying yours.

Don't really understand the no partial serration rule as itt's pretty useful for me. I don't have to worry about what I'm cutting at work. I think the serrations make sense on an emerson, all my other knives are regular blades. My cqc15 has serrations because the recurve tanto pretty much handles everything I need and then I can use the back of the knife if I'm worried about what I need to cut. Also put it on my A100 because to me it's a pry bar with an edge; might as well pack another tool into it and have it serrated. That being said I want a super commander or seax and I won't be rocking serrations on those fellers.

From a gun guy's perspective, I have never actually sold and then bought anew the same exact firearm, but I owned a .38 Spl ultralite snubnose and a compact .40 S&W when I was a newer shooter because both were super good deals for what they were, and I sold them due to the recoil being too much for me to the point I wasn't practicing with them. But now I am not as recoil sensitive, so I recently bought a different ultralite .38 Spl snubnose and traded for a fullsize .40 S&W, because I think both are good for niche applications and I am not as recoil adverse. So, that is one reason. Also, if you stop needing something, but then things change and you once again need it, you may sell and buy something back. For example, if I moved to a state with no public lands, I may sell (or more likely trade) my coyote setup or elk setup, because why keep a rifle I'm not using when I can sell/trade it for something else, like a competition pistol.

    • @steelovan

@@steelovan thank you. Have you tries the Paragon Warlock from Ashville Steel? I have one and it is a pretty cool design that is different for sure, but is probably the coolest sounding fidgety knife I've ever had. Caution though, they come a little stiff at first and need broken in before they really get super smooth to use. I cut myself 3 times in the same spot the first two days owning it. Lol. But I kept playing with it and by day 3 it was broken in. If you haven't played with one, I highly recommend it. I went with the standard version in aluminum, but they have titanium versions too, but those are like 3-400 dollars more. I got mine new for 250, think the new ones are starting around 300 base up to 700ish for a high end one. Honestly I wouldn't pay the titanium price on it. Both are the same blade steel, and the aluminum handle weighs less and still functions the same. Pretty cool design though, fun too.
