Flutes for Vets with Kenneth Troyan

Kenneth Troyan is the executive director of the Flutes for Vets of Central Illinois.
Learning to play the Native American woodwind flute is music therapy for veterans dealing with PTSD or other mental health issues. Age, knowing how to play an instrument, or being able to read music is not a consideration as to whether a person can learn to play this flute - it is an easy instrument to learn. As we tell our students, you can’t make a mistake with how the flute sounds. Our mission is to help our veterans find a calming for their lives through playing the Native American woodwind flute. Our program provides free flutes and free lessons for each veteran. There is never a charge back to a veteran. So if the upper hand ring finger never comes off why even have a hole there?
It depends on what notes you're playing.
You’ve labelled this as Cherokee Morning Song but it’s a different song.
Hey how can i learn notes? Do re mi fal sol and etc.

Hi mine is in the tune of G. Can you help me with what keys are what!? I use to play flutes in the middle school.when I cover all of the holes is it a G note and so on!? I forgot. Thanks!
It depends on the flute maker, but generally yes. Best way to tell is to test it against a piano or tuner to see if that's a G.

American woodwind flute?? It's a Native American instrument. If you're going to borrow something from another culture at least have the decency to call it what it is and tell people it's history. Don't whitewash it.
