Struggling with your Bunnyhop? Start here!
After coaching and teaching the Bunnyhop for years, I stumbled on this method of teaching it and have had great success with my students.
Traditional instruction starts with a down and back move, or the manual, then on to scooping that back end up, that is actually not needed. What is needed is to get the center of mass or the rider and bike up and then directing the front tire down... exactly what we do when jumping.
Check out the video and let me know what you think!

There are tons of videos on how to manual here on RUclips, but the vast majority of these videos teach you how, but very few teach you why we would use the manual on the trail... I'm here to change that! Learning this skill can add fun and creativity to your riding, all while making you more efficient and smooth at the same time. I love teaching this in my clinics because it's always that one p...

Your grip on the bike and how it affects body position - TWOD Quick Tip
Gained some good insight from your video. Really like this approach. Simplest effective explanation I’ve seen. This will help me for sure. Thx!
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words! Now go get those tires off the ground :D
Cheers! Yeah Man, stupidly simple video! for 3 months at the start of this year i was trying to learn the bunnyhop. Could lift the front wheel lift the back wheel, but never one then the other. This video unlocked it in 2mins. Funny, I never thought that by pushing the front down the back would come up like a seesaw automatically, weird, but it works!
Thank you! I love that seesaw analogy BTW.
Thanks for the great tutorial! Could you explain more about the hand movement. Do you tilt the bike by pushing your inner hand forward? Or do you tilt the bike more with your outer hand?
It's more of a movement of directing your outside hand towards the inside. The goal here is to stay centered over the bike, the outside hand does the work as the inside is for a little guiding and stability. Hope that helps!
Great tutorials, your channel deserves to grow👌
Thank you... I'm working on it!
Bunny hop is easy to learn.
If it was I wouldn’t be here
Thanks for the help
Breaking the Bunnyhop down this way has really helped me dial it in and in turn helped my riding... let me know if this helps you!
“Xc” lol
It's always funny calling these XC trails...
Thanks for those advises 🎉
Thank you!
I’ve watched a ton of manual videos and can manual pretty well on pavement. The forward bias on the drop down is something I have never heard and I think it will help me. I still really struggle to get that front wheel up on dirt and it’s frustrating. Great video!
Thank you! On dirt give yourself a target, a reason to manual, whether is't through a dip or up a curb, etc. I think that will open it up for you. Good luck!
You have been such an inspiration to me ever since I met you at a mtb camp thank you so much! Also will you be a the bakers creek fall festival?
O’Bannon is looking mint!
it is mint!
Great videos mate, very much enjoying the way you explain things. Your tutorial videos are very insightful
Thank you! I have many more in the works, will be posting soon, come back and check them out.
Thanks for the clear explanation. I'm going to give it a go. I've been riding for a couple years now and so far, not successful at a manual. I think it will go better now.
AWESOME! Go out with this positive attitude and you will get it.
why does america have the brakes the wrong way around? because 'murica?
it's because we drive on the right side of the road ;) :D
why does the rest of the world have shit backwards?
I guess this is what I am missing, I should come down and compress a bit more on the front end and push the bike forward not only with arms but also with feet.
yes, get those feet(and lower body) involved, the manual is a dance of pushing with the feet and hanging from the arms.
I wish i could but after i fell off a ramp and almost dislocated my arm and collar bone i just wont ride bikes until i feel safe again, and yeah im ok even if you dont care👍
The only manual i can actually do
Rock on with the Trail Manual, no need to be a show off.
This is one of my favorite skills and I would love to see more riders embrace it... let me know if and how you use the Trail Manual
Is this the massanutten skills clinic?
Yup, Skills Kitchen on the backside of Massanutten....

Lol😂😂
😁
I’ve been wanting to try this
WOW
it was a fun run!
Tire foreskin… my worst nightmare
What’s this one called??
On Trailforks it’s called The MART, Middle Airport Ridge Trail.
Wow you make it look so easy. Rode that trail a couple weeks ago and it all felt so much bigger. God it’s gorgeous when you get into the mossy forest
@@alexwex123456789 thank you! Yeah it's absolutely beautiful out there... did you make it out to the Enchanted Forest trail?
@@twowheelsondirt I did! Really does feel magical
I just rode this trail and thought the same thing. Absolutely gorgeous
The Snowshoe Backcountry is my happy place.
I tried practicing my Scandi flick the other day. Look like a 12-year-old learn how to skid for the first time.😂
Think of it a less of a skid and more of a super exaggerated pre turn… just like a ‘cut’ when running and changing directions, instead of a foot going out, it’s the front tire. In time the scandi will be there!
Nice work. Funny story, we ran into a mother and her young son on a strider bicycle at the top of M before you hit that first 90 to the right. We were going slow letting him do his thing and he fell over going into the 90s. Not sure what they were thinking trying that trail on a bike with 10 inch tires. He was a little trooper though.
Nice run! Best of luck man!
Fun stage! Good luck next week! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Thank you!
This is advice I received from my Dad when I was a little kid riding dirt bikes, he would often say "GRIP THE BIRD!" as we'd take off for a ride. Originally came from the Golfer Sam Snead.
New channel icon?
Yup, playing around with it and cleaning it up.
Great
You should get a tour guide. He wrote a lot of stuff backwards.
and you got one later on!!
I want it so badly but there so expensive
That’s stock with the SID on it… I have since got a new Spur with the Fox 34, and honestly the SID rode better.
Great trail edit. Building up a Spur as we speak. Are you running 120 or 130 up front?
Best and on point tutorial lol. Would definitely save and watch this back once I get my first bike 👍🏻 May you be popular one day
Thank you, I appreciate that!
