NANCY LITTEN musician
Добавлен 19 май 2011
I entered the Royal Academy of Music, London, at age 16 on an open piano scholarship, winning prizes while there. I also studied violin to a high level, freelanced as an orchestral player, and led a string quartet, performing as a soloist, chamber music and orchestral player on both instruments and as a piano accompanist.
After many years of experience conducting choirs I published 'Choral and Vocal Warm-ups for Pianists', 'Choral and Vocal Sight Singing with Keyboard Harmony,' and 'Rounds with Accompaniment' (all with Alfred UK.) I advised ABRSM and TCL on electronic keyboard, published the 'Keyed Up' series of tutors, and wrote many compositions and arrangements for exam syllabuses. The 'Playing with Colour' violin tutors I co-authored with Sharon Goodey, and my arrangements of favourite piano pieces for piano trio, 'Classical Vienna' and 'Romantic Vienna', were published in 2022. 'Piano Postcards' ( 10 piano pieces at intermediate level) has recently been published by EVC.

Gnossienne no 1, Satie
Written in 1890 and possibly reminiscent of ancient Greek dance, the piece uses a strange mode. It is a mixture of F Dorian and F minor, with the addition of some notable B naturals (the sharpened 4th)

Hymne à l'amour
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Месяц назад
Nancy Litten plays her own arrangement of the song as performed by Celine Dion at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Edith Piaf composed the lyrics and first sang the song in 1949, the same year that her lover died in a plane crash. The original music was by Marguerite Mennot. Three Fantastic Dances
Просмотров 4205 месяцев назад
Nancy Litten plays Shostakovich's Three Fantastic Dances op 5: Allegretto, Andantino, Allegretto. They were written between 1920 and 1922 while Dmitri Shostakovich was still a student. The combination of clothing and wig is somewhat 'fantastic' too, with a floor mop, Viennese mask and graduation gown...

In 1895 the Hungarian composer Ede Poldini wrote Dancing Doll as one of 'Marionettes', 7 pieces for piano. Kreisler later arranged it for violin with piano accompaniment, but this is the original version, played by Nancy Litten.

Elizabethan Serenade, piano
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
Ronald Binge's Elizabethan Serenade was first performed by the Mantovani orchestra in 1951. Although it celebrates the second Elizabethan age in England, pianist Nancy Litten has dressed in the fashions of the time of Queen Elizabeth 1 in the 16th century.
Handel in the Strand (on his skateboard)
Просмотров 432Год назад
This piece is most jolly, and sounds jollier still at a brisk tempo. As I have small hands, plus arthritis in both thumbs, for this second take I rearranged many of the wide chords and octaves to enable me to get up speed. I imagine Handel flying down the Strand on his skateboard, his wig streaming out behind him...

A beautiful piano interpretation, just like you. ❤ 👏👏👏
Wow
lovely arrangement, could I please get a copy of this to play
It is an arrangement by Roy Douglas, OUP from 1942, so I don't know whether it is still available. Take a look on the imslp.org site to find similar or write to OUP
Elegant Ms. Litten, as always 🩷
Thank you!

Musica retro, Intramontabile, Grazie ❤
So, so enjoyable. Thank you so much.
This is so beautiful I really love it. How about The Afternoon of the Fawn.
Its not the first time I'm hearing you play this but you are a fabulous pianist & i love listening to you & this is really beautiful.
Fantastic arrangement and performance! This genre of music has a very specific sound, harmony and feel - Victorian-early 1900s fairground type music. Is there a specific name for it?
Nancy Litten plays John Bratton's 2-step, written in 1907. (Irish songwriter Jimmy Kennedy added the now famous lyrics in 1932)
Beautifully done ❤
Beautifully played 😊
I am listening to music alongside doing my work, and this really got my attention! It's beautifully played. Thank you for sharing!

@@NANCYLITTENsalonpiano 🥰🥰
You look fab & so is the song you play so well.
Beautiful.. I had to play it after hearing you!!!
Oh yeah, my girl You got it going on! You are wearing out that stride!
Hermosa, Beautiful
Love the piano playing, the old upright and the great visual feel for Fat's classic song. Bravo.
Hello Nancy, I love your playing. With the Paris Olympics & the return of Celine Dion could you play Hymn to Love?
Thank you for your comment. The period I have chosen is 1850-1950 however...
@@NANCYLITTENsalonpiano oh well that's fine then because Edith Piaffe first sung it in 1949.
@@llyn7154 Thank you! I'll do it then!
great.
A thousand thanks Nancy. That was one of the first songs I knew as a child and it's taken 70 years for me to hear it played properly. The teddies also played their parts well, as they should.
I love watching you in all your costumes.
Awesome musician
I don't believe you... What's next...??? One little two little three little Indians...???
Excellent
I envy the liquidity of your arpeggios that I cannot match, likely the fault of my piano.
Beautifully played Your Highness and what fun we are having with the dress up! Sir Walter Raleigh should be here to hear too.
Good shit, nice one lady.
❤❤
Charming!
Yours is now my favourite Pavane on RUclips. So deeply moving and touching. Thanks for sharing.🎉
♡ Jesus loves you and invites you to speak with Him in yer Heart at anytime as you would to a good Friend, He never denies anyone who trusts Him.
You made my day, thanks for sharing.🎉🎉
Brava Nancy! The understated musical humor reminds me of Rachmaninoff's arrangement of Bach
I really enjoyed that thank you Nancy! I used to play that one. I played it in school assembly when I was about 12. Such a nice version, you play very well!
Thanks. For. The. Lovely music. And for. The. Appearance. It. Brings me, to. Another time.
I am very happy that you like it.
