What kind of cedar do you use? Western Red? Atlantic white? So many
I use yellow cedar, I’m sure all would be fine as long as there are no brown portions of material. Thanks for watching, more smudge/incense material on the way.
Can you help with the following please: I have a row of 15-17 cedars in my backyard. They grow along the length of a 6 foot wooden fence. They were growing into the neighbour's yard. The neighbour went the length of the cedars sawing off 4-5 limbs off each tree at the trunk. I was and still am in shock at what he has done. Will this harm the cedars? Is there anything I can do to protect them, to mitigate the harm he has done? Please let me know.

We also use cedar as a tea for lung ailments and in our bathtub to heal us of arthritis type complaints. A hot bath with cedar in the steam is very good for us.

Not much of a residual smell I would say. It’s a very strong smell when burning. I would say if it’s done frequently it would defiantly eventually be absorbed by surrounding material, cloths, fabric, curtains etc. While smudging indoors traditionally widows should be open as much as possible to release old and welcome the new.. Hi I have a question: do i have to wait for it to dry for atleast 5 days or so or can i use it straight away?
Hello, I found they need to dry a lot. The natural oils in cedar take extra long to dry. 5 days should do it. Try and keep out the big stems. Thanks so much for watching, happy smudging! ✌️❤️

That was helpful to see that we cut the sticking out stuff off. I did everything accept that. I used the twine as my string. Hopefully it doesn't burn weird.
It’s all just positive intentions and energy, any practice is good practice. I feel an even mass and density will burn best. I have yet to make the perfect smudge. I like. It that way.
Wonderful video, thanks! I have 2 questions: 1. Do you wait until it dries to smudge. 2. Do you know if people with cedar allergies will be negatively affected by the smudging.
Hi there, 1.- yes (wrap your smudge midways through drying, wait until completely dry. 2. I’m not inclined to give solid advice on allergic reaction. I would say the smoke is particulate and therefore can easily be in jested through the eyes, nose and mouth.

Can I use this to cleanse my crystals?
Although I’m not sure officially, generally my understanding is moonlight and running water are most topically used to cleans crystals. I personally feel intent is very powerful and therefore anything is possible, life is what you make it. I use a smudge in different ways, all surrounding my thoughts and feelings. Wether I’m sending or asking. Thanks for watching!

@@thismountainhighadventure9419 I learned about this from an Ojibwe friend! Generally, you want to 1) pick cedar in the morning (symbolic of everything waking up, good spirits around, etc.) 2) pick from different parts of the tree so it doesn’t ‘look’ harvested 3) It’s also recommended you give something back in exchange, like a bit of cornmeal, a piece of hair, bit of tobacco, etc. As a sign of respect. 4) Then give thanks to the tree / nature / God for providing you with what you needed. 5) Then bury used Cedar in the “north” (like north of your house maybe), as that’s where it is on the Ojibwe medicine wheel To me, the practice reinforces respect for our environment and good habits for sustainable harvesting! As well as respect for Ojibwe and other native peoples, who taught some our settler ancestors the importance and used of cedar

I am native, I did offer tobacco and I dident over harvest. I also gave thanks to the tree and surrounding‘s.
@@Joyride37 the Ojibwe smoke Kinnikinnick...not true tobacco. Their offerings were traditionally Red Osier aka red willow. Corn was from Mexico so they wouldn't have offered that back in the day until Turtle Island was colonized. The Tribes do their gathering differently. The Lakota have a tradition to even meditate on gathering before going and ground yourself with bare feet on the earth before sun up is up and gather while the sun is up. That is traditional to many tribes but for gathering "all our relations" not just for cedar. And tribes do not all share the Ojibwe medicine wheel as their own. We all have our own medicine wheel teachings. So if he was not taught that way, his people probably don't do it that way.

How long do it have to dry before we can light it up?
Depending on where you drying, best to hang it and because of the oils it takes longer to dry than most smudge material 3-5 days
A big branch just fell off a large cedar in my yard so I’m ready to do this!
