Rattlers can be deadly if you are bitten. There are hundreds of miles for them to flourish with zero human presence. This snake was on a popular trail that people walk, including kids. Had I let it go and the people behind me had been bitten or harmed, knowing I could have prevented it, would be difficult. That said - I couldn't let it go.
During this time of year in the desert, nights are cold and days are warm. Snakes come out during the day to lay in open spaces and catch the warm sun. So happens trails are the perfect open space. Note that this snake struck at me as I rode by it. VERY close call ! ! !
