there's no such thing as perfect vampire story logic ;) I can only assume there's some powerful vampire curse magic that prevents him from actually seeing any other "reflections" - not just mirrors, but portraits, projections, tadpole mental image, etc.. 😅

second one i didn't hear until my 7th playthrough and it was post-patch, so... was new to me :)

@@amistiel he’s said it in patch 6, too. The parameters are 1) your party has to be under level 5, or your party has less than 3 people, and 2) he has to be the companion selected to make a comment while in range of being pulled into the cutscene.

Haha, true... or just ask anyone to paint a portrait. Perhaps there's some hidden vampire magic that prevents it for him to cast it on his own and he's surely not asking Gale for advice on magic. 😅😂

@@amistielissue with that is that Astarion looks through our eyes in order to see the runes on his back so that he can copy them onto Cazador's back.

true, I just always think that not only he's quite ancient which explains some of the flowery language choices, but he's a bit of a dreamer/romantic/role-play type who just is extra committed to the role he chose. As he replies to Shadowheart when she pokes fun at the way he presents himself as a "heartthrob" - he simply says "well, if the shoe fits..." 🤭 I also think that explains all of his variants of behavior later in game - he starts trying new roles and, depending on your choice to ascension, he will either commit to his "sweet caring partner" or "magnificent lord and ruler of all" choice. In any case, all options are exciting to explore. 😍

Wyll's character is heavily underwritten with no real depth to him. I die of boredom every time I interact with him or do his quest line. The devs should have kept the original concept of him imo.

@@andaredvex very true, i wish they played much more on his trauma of basically giving his youth away for the sake of his city, but instead of badass with trauma they decided they already played that card on Astarion, so they opted to just make him into picky boy-scout... 🥲

As his dedicated juice-box, I indeed believe he will be extra protective of his main guardian/food source/possible love interest to catch that blade on time 😁 Plus, we all saw his skilled handywork out in the field, the guy is a master 😏🔥

@@amistiel Well, he is at the very least 219. Possibly as much as 239. Those are the numbers that players can figure out. For humans, 2 centuries easily makes 8 generations. For half elves or halflings easily at least 4 or 5. Even for dwarves, he was alive when the player character's grandparents were babies. And dwarves are long-lived, just not as long lived as elves. Non-elves have hard time figuring out elven ages past early adolescence, so they have little reason to doubt him.

@@velinas_ i think 239 is accurate, if he's frozen in time - he was already adult and working as a magistrate, plus doesn't look like a teen anymore (unlike more baby faced Wyll or even young and angry Lae'zel) 😆

@@amistiel He was 39 when turned. Aged up afterwards. His enslavement lasted for 180 - 200 years. There are things he says in chapter 3 that make 180 years the more plausible option. Hard to imagine that Astarion and the others hardly did any luring for 30 years, when spacing this somewhat evenly over 2 centuries is the best way to avoid undue suspicion and more or less corrupt people handling such investigations. If they couldn't be bribed, that could create problems if people in positions of power ended up missing or had too conspicuous fatal accidents. Astarion looked frozen in time in EA, then he was aged up for full release. Deviating from the frozen in time standard. Larian decided that two centuries of enslavement, with plenty of boredom, loneliness and frequent torture could age up even a vampire. Unorthodox but I don't object, Astarion is a beautiful elven man either way.
