We go to import face off at Texas motorplex. I entered the forced induction pro class with all the supras and gtr’s. During qualifying Goldie ran a 10.4, then a 9.6. In the first round of eliminations my competitor didn’t show up, so I got a bye run. I sent it and spun bad, but stayed in it.     So with the microsquirt youre wiring it in parallel to the stock ecu and essentially letting the stock ecu control everything accessory wise while letting the microsquirt control the tuning side of things like spark, fuel, timing, AFRs, and etc? really hope you see this lol

    Washing this video again I have a question You never change the 3 gear on that transmission I know it's a four gear ratio on it just wandering I have the same on my 82zx turbo

      All the auto 280zx have a 3 speed auto, called JATCO 3N71B. In this video I have the stock transmission. Only modification is the torque converter.

    Right on dude. Glad you stopped that engine before it had a window put in it. That rod was all sorts of wrong. My rule with a rod bearing failure has always been to replace the rod on the one that failed. They are almost never usable again unless resized.

    Man I’ve done the same things with the 4g63. I actually polish the crank with 600, 1000 then 2000 using a speaker wire to wrap it. I think you had some detonation that crushed that bearing. I would say that you might consider extra clearance bearings in the future. Glad you’re back to having fun with it regardless.

      Around 23 psi and 18 degrees. I have a dragy but I’m so bad about starting it. With all the cameras, and data logs I have to start manually it just slips my mind most the time.

    Question, you didnt pull the cams due to the shavings ? wouldn't the shaving get in under the cam caps ? Also how did you flush the whole engine of the bearing material ?

      The cams have to come out to pull the head. They were inspected as well as the saddles in the head where they ride. The only damage was #6 rod and crank. I also installed new oil pump gears and cover. I suspect the failure was caused by a tweaked rod, not contamination. The rods were used when I bought them.

    I'm really sorry this happened man. You absolutely did the right thing and you may have crashed had you run it again. Every "real" car guy and racer has been where you are right now. Taking a break, and concentrating on family can do you wonders and reset your outlook. If you damaged a piston, it may be time to spend money on good parts.

    Can you trigger the start fuel injector or does that happen auto due to crank?

      You can adjust how many revolutions the ecm waits to start injecting fuel, but otherwise it will start injecting as soon as it sees a couple revolutions by default.

    If you run all three cylinders off of a single signal won't there be three pulses per cycle on each cylinder? How to ensure none of that fuel goes out an exhaust stroke?

      This engine control setup uses batch fire fuel injection, and wasted spark ignition. Batch fire means all 6 of the fuel injectors open and close together. You can program the megasquirt module to do as many squirts per revolution as you want, but because of injector latency you will find that only 1 or 2 fuel injection events per revolution is ideal. Fuel will never go in the cylinder during the exhaust stroke because it will be trapped above the intake valve. This is a tried and true method of fuel injection timing, and doesn’t have any noticeable affect of drivability. Wasted spark ignition refers to the use of 1 coil to fire 2 cylinders simultaneously. Both the cylinders on a given coil have to be “companion cylinders”, meaning they reach the top of the cylinder together. But 1 will be on the compression stroke while the other is on the exhaust stroke. So both will receive spark at the same moment from the same coil, but one cylinder will ignite fuel mixture and the other will spark harmlessly in the inert exhaust gasses, doing nothing. Hence the name “wasted spark” The megasquirt gets a single signal from the crank every 360°, and with that it can calculate engine timing very accurately. However, it won’t know whether a cylinder is on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke, because both happen when the piston is coming up. This doesn’t matter because a wasted spark system spark’s during both of those events, and fuel is always sitting atop the intake valve waiting to get sucked in. A camshaft position sensor is needed if you want to run sequential fuel injection, or individual coils.

      @@masterofmachines it’s got a powerglide in the black car. I have a th400 in my truck that had went high 5s with the 4 banger, but I’ve recently switched to an LS as I kept cracking cylinders unfortunately.

    Been watching a bunch of your videos and commenting today. I’ve learned a ton about suspension the last year with this fox. I’ve gotten it to a 1.21 sixty with a 4 cylinder. Watching this video, I think you’re looking at it differently than you should. Realistically, you want the car to separate in the rear (looks like it does). What o would suggest is trying your adapt some fox front struts and get some DA units to slow the front. Also, I noticed that your trac loc looks like it might need new clutches or use a mini spool. Maybe these have been addressed since I’m a little behind on your videos. Great job with the car. I’m looking forward to your progress.

    I saw one guy already comment about your comment “I’m almost out of gas”. I thought this is going to be bad! I’m sure your data logger shows if you went lean or not. I’m sure you will reflow your injectors. Looking at your pistons and rings I believe you had too small of ring gaps. I feel the pistons failed because the rings locked up in the bores. IDK what gap you had, but I would increase all of them a good amount. I’m an old school sbc nitrous guy but I run .024-.028 thousand on a 4” bore.

      It didn’t go lean on the pass that it broke. You may be right, but fyi I had the top steel ring gapped to .019, and the second cast ring at .023. The piston is 86mm diameter. I got that spec by simply adding a few thousandths to the highest permisible ring gap for a factory turbo engine. Unopened turbo engines have been known to hold well over 800hp so I figured that’d be ok. Not certain though.

    You're worried you'll run out of gas for the last run. That was likely the issue. It was running lean, got hot and melted the pistons

    Muriatic acid will take that aluminum off the cylinder walls without damaging anything. It just makes the aluminum bubble and you can wipe it off. I do it all the time with 2 strokes. Wear gloves and safety glasses…
