We spent a week there in 1979. No tour buses nothing but a family who lived there. There was places to sleep inside which was a plus since it is so cold at night. Not much food available carrots and noodles. Our ride never came back to get us so we walked down the mountain. It rained on the way down. Great adventure good to be young back then.

Some places in New York City or suburbs or Los Angeles is more dangerous. I have been to Europe and every city in Europe has problems with pickpockets or people get tricked and robbed. My point is you need to be aware and careful every city you visit in the world. I honestly think it’s ridiculous the bad impression people have about Guatemala and I can guarantee it’s because they never visited 😂

I live here in Guatemala City since a couple of years ago and it is true, there are a couple of spots where the rich live such as Cuatro Grados Norte, Cayala or Las Americas (where you didn't go) or Sexta Avenida in Zone 1 (which is full of people day time) but had you ventured at foot 2 streets away from Sexta, you wouldn't have had that camera or your mobiles to make this little film with. There isn't a person here in Guatemala City that doesn't know someone that's been murdered, kidnapped or robbed at gun point so this clip is misleading. Going by car in and out in a day and visiting 3 safe places is not tourism or representative of this place, it's only holiday box ticking and you shouldn't encourage any other tourists to really come here. And if you think I exaggerate, just watch TN23 or TV Azteca in the morning...
