Just about to start building this kit, going to be looking at what you did as yours turned out fantastic.

The bow is the Forecastle (FX). The antennae is the whip aerial. There are 2 on the stbd side also. You will have to add Phalanx at the arse end of 02 deck. We called it R2D2. Its a close in weapon system (CIWS). Yow will be adding the GDP (Gun Direction Platform) soon. That means you will be adding CAS which is the missile control radar.

The Perry class was built in long and short hull versions, with the change primarily being for operating the larger SH-60. FFG-57 is a long hull Flight III, but Academy also sells the kit as FFG-7 which would be a short hull Flight I.

I have yet to use PE for any of my models, but do want to try it someday. There have been a few models for which I wish I had PE for more detail (especially the Titanic I built). I seen a few videos of how people use PE, but I've never seen the two tricks you show here, namely giving it a light sanding and then using the blue tack to hold the sheet down. But great ideas!

Great start for an iconic frigate, interestingly, this class was the very first class entirely designed by computer. I know that these ships have seen service outside the United States, and in the Austrailian series, Sea Patrol, they have the ship in a few episodes. I haven't yet started mine, but I will at some point. Take vare, and all the best.

Man I would love to build a model of the USS Ruben James. I served on the USS Ruben James, we are the fight James Gang.

IS2(SW) here. I served aboard the ‘57 from January 1999 to October 2000 when I was promoted from Deck Seaman to IS3(SW) and transferred to JICPAC. I was Master Helmsman and VBSS team member on the James. Two deployments aboard. Teamwork South ‘99. CARAT 2000. HOORAH!

Thank you for sharing your build of the FFG! I’m about to start on my very first ship build so your videos have come in handy. I used to do security at Garden Island in Sydney many years ago and for some reason was drawn to he FFG especially when they would have it in dry dock. By the way, great choice in products, in the form of “Ickysticky”. They have great customer service and Monique is always willing to help with any customer enquiries. G'day Peter, looking good so far, originally watched the un boxing vid a while back, and have been avidly waiting the build series 😁😁😁😁 I'm looking at getting a similar FFG-7 Academy kit...1/350 with the Pontos upgrade kit (base kit I assume similar to your one but possibly not??)....two to choose from, expensive and fckn expensive are the options 😂😂😂😂 but I know the Reuben James name well from Red Storm Rising (read well over 100 times on ye olde fashioned book version....and now listen as I model away), and am on a mission to build the full array of ships, aircraft and armour from the novel...of both sides...and clearly she played a major role in the latter part of the novel....so an imperative inclusion. Will be watching each video and lkely multiple times, but looking forward to the build myself as well...eventually. Thanks for the time and effort that goes into creating all your videos, it is greatly appreciated.

Please please please sort out your audio and video quality 😂 I love the topics you model (especially the ships) and your modelling skills are probably the best on RUclips but the video quality makes me want to skip them

I have 1/350 Bismarck & Prinz Eugen. This kit of yours is a small ship. Destroyer size. Practically as long as 1/700 scale carriers.

I admire 350th scale ships. Very small! PE is almost mandatory for the details.

Its a wonder to me why there are no internal bulkheads to support the deck when its placed.

What wrong with your sound

yes there are to back ends and 2 back end decks ,some modellers are cutting the back end off ,and adding that spare end so it takes the one with circles on

Hello Pete. Quick question for you. Are you just using Tamiya cement? How is it working on the painted parts? Do you have to remove any paint to make them stick? Thoroughly enjoying your videos.

I am about to start the same model and yours looks awesome I would just like to know the height of the completed model so I can make case to display the model?

Great patients , you need to make a little jig set up, is that sprue gate the actual jig ? are you meant to over lay this sprue gate over the bottom plates put top plates on then nip them off the sprue gates ? Other wise for the three different elements , top plate bottom and those end bits all need doing in a batches, in a line with double sided sticky tap for bottom and top and a stick to mount the hinge bits spaced out equally then all in a line assemble in bigger sections all at once like a sandwich , to save time as you do waste time when they are all moving around your constantly chasing it for the five minutes just to do one set It is very fiddly otherwise need to do batches , lay out like 100mm of double sided tape method so they don't move when you are trying to assemble the top bits and do in batches of say 100mm or longer all at once .

Pete : Why can you not fix the top to the bottom sections and then add the clips per side and that way it should be easier , than the fiddly way the instructions tell you to do it ?
