how I remade soothe2 from scratch
2 days ago I used bitwig's grid to create a patch that effectively clones soothe2. then virtual riot beat me to uploading the video 😭
get soother!, soother2! and the 8 band spectral modulator presets. they are free of charge:

heavy distortion without losing dynamics
Просмотров 116 тыс.Год назад
this is a neat little technique called “companding” or “compander saturation” where we’re able to put compressors and saturators on either end of a saturator, so that we can heavily distort a signal then recover the dynamic range afterwards using an expander which applies the same amount of gain that the compressor initially removed. this can be great for coloring a sound with distortion while ...

The better way to route tracks to the mixer in FL Studio

The way you're assigning instruments and samples to the FL Studio 20 mixer is messy and giving you a headache. Here's a tutorial showing why your way is bad and how to use the way better way.
WIDE synths that also work in MONO (updated)
Просмотров 9 тыс.2 года назад
This way is better because it almost completely eliminates phase cancellation, plus it does so for each harmonic, not just the bass. Drawback is that you're taking away the unique phases from the wavetables, and for some sounds the phasing sound is desirable. The original video: ruclips.net/video/pYVAHmIHoog/видео.html

    Does this mean you should also use linear phase EQ? Or not since it’s affecting the whole spectrum at once?

    • @jshstuff
      @jshstuff 3 месяца назад

      yeah exactly. if you’re trying to mix to high LUFS levels, watch out for anything at all that shifts the phase on the master. even other kinds of effects like certain saturation/distortion can cause phase shift. if you really need to eq or add any phase-altering effects, try doing it at the bus level, or on individual tracks. then limit/clip all the tracks/busses at 0dB (look up CTZ).

    Is there a reason linear phasing is just not turned on by default by developers?

    • @jshstuff
      @jshstuff 5 месяцев назад

      I think because it’s generally fine, if not better to use non linear eqs unless youre trying to do something reaaaaly specific. like mixing loud for example. most of the time you probably don’t actually care what happens with the phase relationships of a sound. they’re usually random and meaningless. regularly look at your sounds through good oscilloscopes and over time you’ll likely learn to see when you do/don’t need to preserve phase on a sound

    So when would you use the non linear phase mode

    • @jshstuff
      @jshstuff 5 месяцев назад

      basically all the time because there’s nothing inherently wrong with phase shift. it’s only bad if you have a reason to preserve the existing phase of your sound, like on a loud, squared off master. on basically any individual sound in a mix it doesn’t matter if you change the phase relationships. except for some special cases. for example if you have a dubstep kick by cymatics that’s really loud and you can tell it’s hard clipped just by looking at the waveform - if you shift the phase on that kind of sound it will probably introduce a lot of peaks over zero (even when you’re cutting). and you probably don’t want those peaks. so if you needed to eq that kind of sample, you’d probably benefit from linear phase. but of course this comes with the caveat that you’d need to make sure that any groups you’re sending that sound to, like groups/busses/master also don’t shift the phase or else that linear phase would be all for nothing.
