Electric Vehicle Conversion Kit
Просмотров 182 тыс.4 года назад
Welcome to the Electron Garage. In our first publication we go over the various components that form the kit used in an electric vehicle conversion. www.electrongarage.co.uk electrongarage
got a 2012 renault trafic just hit 180.000 miles solid van but started having injector problems in the last year... if had funds to change over i am sure the old girl would plod on for some years before she falls apart..
Hi Is it possible to convert a Citroen C5 X7 2.2 HDI from 2010
yes it would be possible but probably not financially viable, this kit is more suited to classic cars. The kits costs and time to convert would be very close to the cost of an existing electric vehicle.
how bout a Ural sidecar?
My Honda needs a new engine and I've always wanted an electric replacement. Where would I have it serviced here in the states?
Excelent
What do you recommend for gearing on the hyper 9? My factory axles are 3.55:1, and could possibly be rebuilt with up to 5.72:1, but that's a lot of added cost. I wish someone offered a kit like this that had a step down gear already installed.
Hello I need help to convert my car I'm in Zimbabwe.
you can also make dodge challenger in Tesla swap EV plz thanks
Waiting.
I’ll like to know Where to buy the kit I think it’s excellent
Is it possible to add battery packs? I'm thinking of converting a 2002 VW T4 LWB day van to an EV, it currently has a 2.5 102 hp engine.
??
Looks like AC system, why NOT DC simpler system pwm should work fine up to 100 miles/hrs, just a question.??
just depends what you want to get out of the vehicle, nowt wrong with dc but most people are using ac systems now, regen and efficiency would be the biggest reasons.
are we there yet, are we there yet ;). Hi pal, any updates? I'm just buying mine atm and then onto doing the same conversion, so i'm looking for some tips.
Not quite, we had to put it on hold whilst we are converting a black cab. Motor and subframe all in, driveshafts are ready to go in shortly. Still loads to do but hopefully get back to full time next month.
@@ElectronGarage i've been keeping an eye out for an LFP pack as i'll be using it to go back round the world and i figure it'll be even better suited, what do you recon? Cheers for the reply mate. John
Great presentation, thanks, a little shy on some details and not too much boring details either. I am considering replacing my old Camry worn out petrol engine & upgrading to Hybrid. I have a few hiccups. I will email you in due course. Thanks again. Tony.
how much is the kit ????? where is your shop I am in Los Angeles,, can you convert, my Toyota Camry 1993 4 cylinder ??????
Could you use lifpo4 batteries with built in bms instead?
Yes absolutely, they will be slightly heavier but if they are cheap then yes. They will also last longer and take more punishment.
Hi can I have a estimate for my automatic saab please
Thank You , You explained it well and it was very informative
Really interesting videos guys keep them going for the EV Scottish community..
Salvatore Corsitto and Marlon Brando
How do you run the A/C?
If your vehicle came with AC you would change the compressor to and HV one which will run of the HV pack. Something like a Nissan Leaf or Tesla one would do.
pricing would be great to know for such a kit
Theres too many specific vehicles to price, but the kit in the video is around £20k.
Do you sell these kits? I think a Mazda MX5 or Toyota MR2 would be great for a conversion (apart from battery packaging). I do wonder about the original ECU in modern vehicles that works the dash , alarm and other systems working in conjunction with the electric drivetrain. I suppose you could just trickle charge the original 12 volt system from the lithium battery pack via a step down transformer? The engine management lights on the back of the dash would need pulled and the gauges converted over to battery charge level. Rev counter/tac not needed but could be used for fun to check leccy motor rpm. Do you keep the clutch in a manual trans, I suppose you still need to synchronise engine and wheel speed when shifting gear regardless of electric? I heard some people who have done conversions using the original manual trans remove the clutch to make dirrect drive and block all other forward gears apart from 2nd as the instant torque means you do not need 1st, and the ratio of 2nd gear suits an electric motor for efficiency at most speeds, not sure if this is all true. I can see an issue arise with an electric motor if using all the original forward gears and having to shift up or down, if you take your foot of the power to dip the clutch to change gear the electric motor will quickly drop to 0 rpm as it does not need to idle. Dumping the clutch at speed after changing up or down a gear with a leccy motor at 0 rpm will tear the clutch apart, which is why only using one forward gear would simplify things? If using all the forward gear ratios then would you need a wheel speed sensor to help the motor take up drive more smoothly when switching cogs? I am genuinely intersted and would love to tinker on a conversion myself, live in NE Scotlans too.
When will we solve the energy to heat loss inefficacy? Look on how many heat syncs and cooling fan are needed, what a waste of energy. So you're not going to capture all that heat for a heating system?
How much does it cost?
I like it this guy can a good instructor 👨🏫
If yall still respond, I was wondering if there was any difficulty in programming an ecu for the car. I'm hoping to do an ev build myself in the near future with a BMW E30 cabriolet.
just depends on what electric motor you want to use, for nissan leaf there are a few VCUs available that will let you take control of the motor. Likewise with a Tesla Motor you can get a replacement board to control it.
How much $ for everything in your video?
Hello I need your help to convert my car Pls, I'm in Egypt
hi do you have the link to purchase these?
Gr8
Thanks
is there a PTO system for the AC compressor?
From the HV junction box there are fuses that can be used for a HV compressor or you can just use a 12v compressor.
Terrible audio - muffled and poorly processed JR
Truly sorry you cant make it out.
Are you able to convert BMW e46, 3 series
Great video. Great info thanks. I usually watch with sound off and CC on. CC was struggling with your accent. 🤣 Had to unmute, then I was OH!
Brilliant anymore updates on this pls
How much is cost to buy kit to Toyots Corolla 1993 model plus shipping to Philippined. It will be my trial to setup my Conversion Business in that Country. Thanks and Regards
How Much thé kit
Great I am on my way to buy my kit
very nice complete kit and well presented and explained
Thank you, been watching your GS450 stuff. We are using the same set up on a conversion.
@@ElectronGarage WOW, really? I want to say that I am soooo glad you guys started making videos (that are about the meat and potatoes and not worried about production values to be perfect, ahem Damien style ha ha) we need more information out there, so thanks for putting it out there
Dear Sir,How much for this kit? Where I can Find it? Thank You. Flavio
And yet another converter !zzzzz
This is a great project! What do you expect the range to be at 80 kilometers per hour?
This kit is also made for 4x4 and suv?
Excellent summary, I have classic range rover car.Can you please suggest which conversion kit I use .If possible please provide required conversion kit.
Great video breaking the whole system into easily understandable chunks. As a petrolhead I've started to become interested now that the technology is becoming more mature and end user friendly. I only have one question, if you swap out for electric how is the brake system run? Is there an efficient pump to run the vacuum booster or is there a different system available to run the hydraulics for it? I understand that the motor can do some braking and regen but there not designed to stop a vehicle correct?
If your car engine has provided the pump for the servo, you simply use a 12 v brake booster pump. These are an off the shelf part used in many vehicles like BMW & VW. The same can be said of power steering there are 12 v electric steering pumps commonly used in the Vauxhall Zafira.
@@ElectronGarage thanks for the info. I'm in the US and am not super familiar with the newer vehicles and didn't know that these were an off the shelf or pulled from a scrapyard option. Been giving thought to doing a conversion with a Pontiac fiero that's been needing more work than it's worth to rebuild the engine and un frock the wiring harness that a squirrel got into.
@@ottopartz1 nice one, there’s a few firms in the US that you can get parts from. Thunderstruck, EV West or Stealth EV. All the best in your conversion.
Do you really need shielded cable?
You don’t have to use it but we feel it’s good practice. Currently there is no legislation in the UK about converting a vehicle, but it wouldn’t take much for our nice govt to say okay it’s time to regulate this as they do in Europe, this will no doubt need independent testing and that’s where non shielded cable will throw all sorts of electrical emissions. So from the outset we use shielded cable and glands.
@@ElectronGarage do you believe the emissions are harmful to humans.?
