Just finished listening to A Folklore rising, came here to witness the celebrations, Your journey is something that has caught my attention on so many levels, skint at the moment, I'll eventually pick up a copy of the book to feel your experience through your art. The rebirth of your self has inspired me to venture on my own journey, meeting new people, learning new skills and to keep traditions moving forward! The Green man is a beacon! Forever grateful!

In relation to Elder European public celebrations, I once had a truly terrifying dream of a nighttime ceremony referred to as "The May King Festival" a few years back. In the dream a man chosen from the village ne'er-do-wells was hoisted up on horseback and paraded through the village main street to the shouts and jeers of the angry rowdy mob. I believe drugs and/or alcohol- or both- were involved. He weas crowned with a wreath of flowers by someone. The end he was taken to a spot outside town walls near to a tree known & used for this celebration, where The May King was yanked violently from the horse and beaten, kicked, stoned, whacked with farm implements/sticks , etc by everyone until they were bruised and bloodied, barely conscious, or barely alive. Then they were either hung from their necks with a rope or set alite, or both. Sometimes they tie a rope around his chest or neck, the other end to the horse, and cover the victim in pitch and set fire to him. They then whip the horse, which drags him off screaming and blazing into the forest! Rarely there was a May Queen. Also sometimes multiple victims were given this treatment. I don't think children were immune from this ritual either. I am a believer in Jung's theories of genetic memory, so I believed when I had the dream, and I still do, that these were very old memories, emerging in dream and not just a nightmare. It was quite vivid, like watching on a movie screen. I believe I have read ( Margaret Murray? ) these sorts of Pagan Rites were often accompanied by murders and other acts of mayhem, which may explain the acceptance of The Religion of Peace throughout our lands in these days.
