The Penrose ladder is a variation of the Penrose triangle, both of which were popularized by psychiatrist Lionel Penrose and his son Roger Penrose. This image is a two-dimensional depiction of stairs in which they either go up or down after a 90 degree turn and at the same time form a continuous loop so that a person can go up forever and never go higher.
