Thank you. Recently and very late diagnosed AUDHD. Even with neuroaffirming theray for 2 years, I have not been alerted to the high probability I have alexithymia. It is so deceptive, especially with the high masking individuals. Nothing worked, until I finally realized I didn’t even know what I was feeling, or where the triggers where coming from.

Yes. Having to create a completely new routine after having the same one for over a year is making me feel very overwhelmed and anxious. Lying makes me feel gross which is one of the many reasons I couldn’t stay in the car sales industry 😂 I just left my job at a grocery store that I had for over a year and masking is EXHAUSTING!

This brings back memories. When I had the Morena IUD, I had a negative experience. 5 months into using it, I began bleeding every two weeks instead of just once a month. My PMDD symptoms worsened with every single 2 week period. I was entirely furiously angry for no reason. I ran every single day just to survive and was still barely managing the rage. I wouldn't ask my husband, "Could you watch Joshua for me?" It was, "I need to run. Watch Joshua." Slam the door on my way out. The only sanity I felt was during the first three days of my period, and then by the third day, the irritation was already coming back into my body, even stronger than before. Thankfully, this only lasted a couple months and finally ended when I had a false pregnancy (I was not actually pregnant, but had all the symptoms, because somehow my subconscious brain and body believed I was pregnant. This at least provided temporary relief.) I got the Mirena removed a few months later and am probably never using any birth control ever again. I'm very glad that birth control helps some people and that it's possible for someone to have a very good experience with the Morena. I'm just not sure I'm ever going to trust a birth control again, (and also my beliefs about contraceptives has changed since I started becoming Catholic.) Anyway, I could probably write a book. I've had bad experiences with antidepressants too and am trying to find natural remedies if possible. Ovulation is the worst for me. I get severe, disabling sensory overwhelm during Ovulation leading to panic attacks and/or just totally freaking out, and then have fluctuating moods until my period, with bouts of depression and intense anxiety. I have no idea what kind of supports I can use as an adult to help with my autism (except noise cancelling headphones when noise is just too much.) So I'm interested in looking into that. Thank you for giving me a direction to look.

I totally agree with your take on everyone being humans, all humans are worthy. I disagree with your interpretation/definition of 'neurospicy' as divergence 'light' - salsa can be mild or super hot. What I see over and over again is that neurodivergent folks feel unworthy and somehow lesser (as seen on social media). What I don't see is people being okay and/or with a sense of agency. Divergence sounds so medical, like an authoritarian definition of a life experience that can be quite nuanced (tests primarily focus on only the negative aspects, not what might be considered positive attributes of being differently abled mentally) I want to see people in their own actualisation/acceptance/'power'. 'Neurospicy' for me is a way to take my power back. To own the space that makes me feel comfortable - because my way of being in the world is creative, fun, funny, solutions oriented, outrageously positive when I have no reason to be. It's great that you're talking and thinking about it (because it made you feel a certain way).... but it also feels quite judge-y and ableist to be critical of how anyone wants or prefers to refer to themselves. PC-facisim doesn't leave any space for various types of expression.

I'm about to meet with my doctor and discuss treatment options for PMDD. One of the things she told me was that you could potentially take SSRIs for 2 weeks out of the month to help during that time, and that there's evidence that it's effective. I'm excited to have that talk with her - it's really unbearable to feel like a rage monster who's crying and irritated by everything.

The reason why I’m pursuing an official autism diagnosis, even though I’m pretty sure I’m autistic, is to get approved accommodations at work, specifically more time to rest away from work. My therapist who’s a LCSW is also a late diagnosed female autistic adult, and she’s the first in my adult life to suggest I may have autism. There were several signs in my childhood pointing to me being atypical: I needed speech therapy until at least kindergarten; even after learning to speak English I preferred to not talk and rather write; I had (and have) kept very few friends. I used to have a very structured life in my childhood that left little to no room for socializing: I was a competitive skater and also pretty involved with playing the oboe. When I had to let the figure skating go due to a career ending injury, there was space in my day that I basically filled with more school and music, but I felt empty for a while. I had no desire to fill the extra time with socializing and making more friends. I could still skate and do some tricks on the ice, but I wasn’t skating nearly every day like I used to. I’m also dealing with chronic back pain due to that aforementioned injury. This is preventing me from engaging in a lot of my special interests: visiting theme parks, ice skating recreationally, traveling, and nature walks. I will be getting surgery scheduled soon. Very nerve wracking hearing about the procedure, but it has to be done to improve my quality of life.

I'm sorry for your loss🧡 I'm learning how not to respond with my own experience first when this happens. But sometimes I catch myself writing about my experience with pain and loss. When my mom died I isolated myself from the rest of my family, my dad and my big sister. I've been trying to figure out how to get through loss together with my loved ones but it feels forced and I put my needs aside, now when I'm an adult. Right now I cry a lot of suppressed sorrow and pain, that I can't put into words. So for me it's always a delayed release of the pains of loss. So I can cry about "nothing" and everything suddenly and people and even me can't understand what or why I cry. But we're learning as we move through life and as we embrace our authentic way of being we heal🧡

Growing up I want to do this kind of thing in our home. My brother's sister always thought I was spoiled and allowed to get away with what I wanted. But my parents raised me in a way that I had my own autonomy. Which is what you talked about in this video I personally am now 60 years old and going to be getting tested for autism. I have an intellectual disabloody. I also have dyslexia and I have always felt like an alien but now my parents made me feel like somebody who is actually worth being around so I weren't took turned out pretty good growing up. And you are correct about the type of message that you were teaching. People about it does work.😊

"it's not in the same NEUROLOGICAL LANGUAGE" and "you're speaking two DIFFERENT LANGUAGES". Those words are SO IMPORTANT (as are all of Jamie's other words in this podcast, her video's, and blogs etc) because THIS IS the KEY DIFFERENCE between autistic and allistic people. We're speaking (primarily, if not completely, through our behaviour - including verbal) DIFFERENT NEUROLOGICAL LANGUAGES! I've read Jamie's excellent NeuroClastic article 'Why We Need to Start Treating "Autistic" As Another Language Instead of a Condition' and her explanation and analogy here makes perfect sense to me. In fact, not only do I FIRMLY believe that autism and allism are neurological language differences, I also believe this paradigm IS NEEDED in place of de-humanising and innacurate paradigms (that have existed around autism for decades and have caused GREAT harm to autistic people) and the core of my work as an autistic Life Coach is going to be focussed on this. I truely believe that an autism paradigm shift from 'disorder' to neurological language difference will literally change the lives of autistic people (and our allistic allies) for the better and, more importantly, literally help SAVE MANY LIVES. (Allistic as well as autistic) Thank you for this great podcast Danielle.

Another crucial part is the focus/concentration difference, monotropism and stuff like genuinely having a hard time to switch from task to another task in a relatively short time (at least too short for autistics), because this impacts life in general, but also work.
