Remember, tho, that was a one-in-howevermany years of a drought. All of Minnesota suffered low-water levels, heck, I only mowed 4 times last year.

When I was about twelve some friends and I went from Sharon to Sherman in three days because we had to meet our ride….we had blisters…never forget it!

A multi day float trip has been on my bucket list for a while. Nice trip!

If you look up Karst Topography, it will give you lots of stuff on the area you're in. Basically the rainwater picks up carbon in the air, falls on the ground and percolates through the rock. The carbon in the water make a weak carbonic acid (I think) that creates the caves, springs and so forth. It reacts with the limestone, sandstone and other rocks to eventually break down. Tree with purple buds is a Red Bud tree. White flower with a cross that you see at the same time in spring is a Dogwood I believe. Cheers!

What is the boundary waters?
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) is over one-million acres of rugged and undeveloped wilderness! It lies in northeastern Minnesota, United States and extends nearly 150 miles along the Canadian border. With several hundred miles of streams and over 1,000 lakes, this network of connecting waterbodies provides a unique opportunity for long distance travel by canoe, which is rare within the continental United States. The BWCA contains something like 1,200 miles of canoe routes and allows one to canoe, portage and camp in the spirit of travelers of centuries ago.

Certainly one of the benefits of solo adventures.
Fantastic adventure. They will remember this for the rest of their lives!! Outstanding. My boys and i have been taking a week to 10 days the last 5 years and going canoeing or hiking. The porkies, sylvania, Drummond island. We talked about doing this trip. Maybe next year. Either the Manistee or the ausable .
