Bolt EUV 6 month review | Driving to work
I live in Las Vegas and due to my job I will be leaving the car parked at the airport for up to a week at a time. My question is will the extreme heat from the summer cause the BMS to turn on when parked to cool the battery down when not plugged in? Doesn’t get very cold here but every once in a while we do see 28-35F degrees in January or February would the BMS heat the battery in this case?
I can say from experience with have my bolt parked in our garage over the summer it can hit over 100 degrees and the car does cool itself automatically to protect the battery, but it is quite good at it and doesn’t have phantom drain problems from my experience. Same with in winter. I actually parked the bolt at the airport for a week while on vacation and used an open public charger (level 1) which was free to charge (just paid for parking) and had a full car when we got back. This was during the winter too. Worked out great.
One thing that I would like to see is an album cover of whatever music is playing (Perhaps a small update). My Prius V has this which I find much better than just the name of a song. I also only use a flash drive plugged in to play music. I this way I only have to listen to whatever I have on my flash drive and I can leave the flash drive in the vehicle all the time. That goes for both My Chevy EUV and my Prius V.
One thing I've never heard mentioned about the Bolt EUV rear view screen, I always have to readjust my focus when I look at it. I have to look at it first, then consciously readjust my eyes to refocus on the screen. So it's not an instant view, there's always a slight delay for me. Can you comment on that?
My girlfriend has a similar issue with the video rearview mirror while I have no issues. The nice thing with the mirror design is the easy to toggle switch on the bottom of the mirror to switch between the video and normal mirror. My girlfriend uses the normal mirror when driving and I swap to the video mirror while driving, the easy flexibility has been nice. I would suggest to you the normal mirror for yourself because it is not likely going to improve for you and it would better safer to avoid the headache it might cause you to use. Good luck!
My wife will be driving her 2023 Bolt EUV home that I bought her last weekend from the dealership. It's the Premiere Redline edition with sun/sound in black. She mastered one pedal driving just in half an hour of city test driving. I guess she's a natural?
Well done and congrats on the Bolt! I feel some people are just not as comfortable with one pedal driving, so I appreciate how easy it is to toggle one pedal driving on or off.

You can leave the seatbelt fastened and it will stay on forever
Great tip!
I would look at your handy "Owners Manual" about tire inflator. I think Chevrolet wouldn't sell a car that would leave you by the side of the road with a flat tire.
the tires are leak sealing tires. why the euv came without the inflator.
I think the tires are run flat ones
@@speedbird7976 no they are called self sealing. i know because i own an euv. they are michelin self sealing, not run flat.
@@hg60justice how much do they cost to replace? My EUV is too new don’t even have a month with it yet
@@speedbird7976 haven't had to replace mine yet. maybe next year. i may even go with 15" rims at replacement and see if i can increase range a bit and cheaper replacement. 😁
Thanks for the video. I’m planning to get a Bolt EUV soon.
That’s awesome!
have a 23 premier redline. great vehicle.
I had to explain to wifey lock the doors with the button, then open the hatch, otherwise you can't lock the doors until you close the hatch
I'd love to get an update for battery percentage display, I'd even go to the dealer for it, maybe even pay a little bit for it. They don't seem to ever want to give out anything free, don't expect to ever get an OTA I'd be more open to that as a revenue stream t h a n subscriptions
I am not aware of any BOLT community in Colombia. For best use of the battery try to charge between 50% - 80% if possible, which should give a range of about 150 - 200 miles. Although I charge to 100% regularly without issues so far. Ideally use level 3 fast charging as much as possible.
How incredibly kind of you to respond to my questions with a video?! It was so thorough - thank you! I especially appreciated your tip on how to conserve range (mileage) by warming up the car first while charging. Then use the heated seat and heated steering wheel to stay warm during the commute. We were considering the Bolt EUV Premier as a commuter vehicle and we live in the Midwest. So the winter info you shared is helpful. The Bolt EUV is a super nice car! Between the two of us, we test drove it a few times and found it peppy and comfortable. Though we are now leaning towards the Equinox EV, I plan to watch your Tips videos (Parts 1 and 2) again because my guess is some ideas may apply to it as well. Many thanks again for answering all of my questions!
Sure thing, hope it helps. The Equinox EV looks to be a good car as well. Good luck in your decision!
@@thundermighty Thank you! My husband and I just did a test drive this afternoon. The Equinox EV is a nice car as well! I was slow to warm up to the idea of electric cars. After some research, others sharing their experiences and driving a couple myself, now I’m on board. It makes sense with complimentary charging on the job, the great incentives and the two we tested being reasonably priced, practical and fun to drive (for us coming from older ice vehicles). Thanks again for your helpful videos.
Thanks again for the tips! I watched this video after your Part 1. It’s nice to have “real world” perspectives and use case scenarios. How would you describe your winter driving experience? Did your vehicle come with a tire inflator kit?
Working on a reply, hang tight!
I decided to make a video to answer your questions, I hope it helps: ruclips.net/video/bGa_k_SEgzY/видео.html

Thanks for the tips! We are considering a used Bolt EUV.
Well that certainly worked out for you, but I'm guessing that if you didn't have that feature and actually hit the car in front of you you would no longer mess with your phone while driving. I don't know I wasn't there but it's just my hunch 😎
Or you could train to be a good driver and do it yourself
I just learned what super cruise was😂😂😂😂 i guess thats what i get for having a 20 year old automobile and not making car payments on a newer car!
😂😂😂
And you might need some air in a tire or 2.
Little bit 🤣
Were you not paying attention or something?
I was paying attention the problem was even with plenty of space in front of myself the other driver slammed on their brakes unexpectedly right after getting in the lane and faster than I could react my car was slowing me down safely. Given Super Cruise only stays on while you are looking forward and paying attention I do not expect to overly rely on it and haven't, but in an extreme situation it performed surprisingly well. Of course always pay attention and drive safely!
So did you start braking on your own as soon as you noticed the other driver was going to enter your lane in order to create sufficient distance? Driving isnt just about you acting, its also about how you personally react to others. Allowing people to believe that their car will magically save them if something goes wrong is dangerous.
Spot on

I just got one of these used. It is sick.
Congrats!!!
Thanks for my dad so happy

The button on the rear Hatch doesn't unlock it, it opens the rear Hatch, it's ajar and you must close it if change your mind The rear Hatch mechanism does not lock but it also doesn't have a user accessible lever to open the Hatch, the fob activates the electric switch that opens the Hatch when pressed
what 2023 Trim has the super cruise? Does LT trim has the Super cruise?
Super Cruise is only on the top level premier trim.
To unlock all doors from driver side press twice. I like mine to unlock just driver side then if need be hit again and all doors unlock
My 2023 Euv I'm averaging 3.8 wh, with 12,000 within a year , great review 👍
The driver’s door button will unlock all the doors. It is a setting you choose.
Did you lose max capacity charging range ?
I have not noticed any battery lose on max charge so far.
Reason I asked we have the same Bolt EUV and it went from 249 miles capacity charge to 220 miles and the charge meter is to the top
Interesting, well my range goes down to about 220 in cold weather. Otherwise it’s been fine. Do you fast charge at level 3 charging often? That could degrade the battery faster. I only level 2 charge at home.
Constantly charging to 100% stresses the battery and can damage it over time. If you don't need 100% don't charge to 100%..
1. Have you done a TPMS sensor re-learn after your last tire rotation? The tire indicating low pressure may not be the one showing on the display. 2. The extra charge ports are behind the center arm rest. I plug in to one of those and charge the phone in the cupholder. No wire going across the cubby/shifter area that way too.
I plan to rotate the tires soon, thanks for the suggestion! The USB's you are correct, I am sad there are not more up front.
Did you need to replace the transmission fluid pump?
In fact I have not 😅
Drove round trip 497.. only issue is charging rate.. I have cloth seats and it was fine..
May be on the next video you could mention the wiper function that cleans the rear camera?
I noticed that you don't use the trip function much.
do you really have to drive while showing the hidden key? you're so boring! If you would be just parked, your presentation might be better
Great point, I think I did a bit better in part 2 😅 Bolt EUV Tips & Tricks | Part 2 ruclips.net/video/LGSQ3x5b2Mw/видео.html

When you say Bright, do you mean high beam?
Yes I am referring to high beam’s when talking about brights.
Thanks for the video. There are door options to allow opening all doors from the driver door or just the driver door.
Enjoyed the video. A note on auto wipers. You don't need to use the touch interface to disable them. Just push the right steering wheel stock down from the "auto" position to the "off" position and auto wipers will be disabled until you bump the stock back up to the "auto" position.
if you double press the driver outside button, it locks / unlocks all the doors
Looks like @hg60justice beat you to the punch on that one 😅
Thanks didn't know you can see the percentage by counting the lines in the front guage.. why the heck did i buy the dongle oh well..
Went from a 23’ AMG GLE 53 Coupe to my 23’ Bolt EUV Premiere. Never been happier.
Congrats on the upgrade!
your tip 1. unlocking the drivers side with 1 push will unlock the drivers. pushing it twice will unlock all. and a third time will lock all. passengers is all both ways. just bought a new 2023 bolt euv premiere redline with sun and surf. midnight black metallic i do like the warming feature, as it just engages the heater with nothing else going. other than the sound of the heater fan, you don't know it's on at all. and i like it takes from the charger supply and not from the battery if plugged in. little heavy on consumption when you need heat, but otherwise a great electric car.
🤯
I did’t know about the cameras! I was just always putting my car into reverse to see the overall shot!😅
1 peddle driving is heavenly.
Well done - we love our new Bolt Premier but are barely scratching the surface of all the things it can do and your video helps!
Thank you
How did you get it for free?
There are actually a lot of public chargers that have free charging for an hour or two, usually a level 2 charger, but even some level 3 chargers will be free to try and incentivize people to use it. The one I charged at was for residents of the building, and I was there for work and got to use it. Thanks for the question!
@@thundermighty Nice, I just bought a used chevy bolt three days ago. I need to figure out where all the chargers are.
Congrats on getting a Bolt! I use apps like: Routely, Chargepoint(commonly Level 2), plugshare, EVgo, EV connect, and Electrify America. They all have slightly different info in the apps, so try them out to see which one provides you he most info for your area. Good luck finding what you need.
@@thundermighty Thanks! This has been my fourth day with it and second day commuting to work (120kms). So far I have really enjoyed driving it. It drives incredibly smooth compared to my old gas powered clunker. 👍😁👍
So much talking, so little information.
Thanks for watching! I agree and will be focusing on more info with less taking in part 2 :)
And the talking pace. Omg, unnoying. Wasn't able to get past the half of the video.
Good job on your words buddy
