Making Ammonium Nitrate with CO2
In this video I show an uncommon method of making ammonium nitrate from calcium nitrate, ammonia and CO2. This reaction is part of the Nitrophosphate process (Odda process).

I was able to achieve a succes rate of about 75% with bickford fuse. And about 25% with visco fuse and black powder (second detonation).

Homemade sugar rocket explosion
Просмотров 3,8 тыс.6 лет назад
Homemade sugar rocket Mixture: 64,5% KNO3 34,5% sugar 1% Red iron oxide I recommend you to not use red iron oxide in combination with a nozzle. Adding Red iron oxide increases the burn rate of the fuel, and because of that the gasses can't escape the nozzle fast enough wich will result in an explosion.

@@laboratoryofdavid Yes. The saying a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, specifically relates to high energy chemistry. I've been engaged in the field for 45 years, have a reasonable chemistry and physics education though and I've read many classics like Lancaster and Conkling. Both these and several more are on my bookshelf. I also had Tony Arena as a mentor, something I can boast about in any company. I've had some close calls. I've never injured anyone, including myself. I have all my limbs, fingers and eyes. I know many professionals, which I was once, and the majority who've been in the game for more tjan twenty years are missing fingers, a hand or wearing an eye patch. I once commented during a pyrotechnics seminar in Queensland, that with all the eye patches, hooks for hand and wooden legs, it looked more like a pirates conference. This is not a field you should get involved in, unless you're serious, and either have at least a very good grounding in Redox chemistry, or are committed to getting this in your toolkit before getting too hands on, you're probably going to maim or kill yourself very suddenly and without any warning. Many of the RUclips channels posting these experimental fireworks, pyrotechnics and explosive videos are insanely foolish. Separation distances are often ridiculous. Lab techniques and precautions are horrifying and the very devices are sometimes very, very illegal for well established and often historically lethal reasons. The max size of salutes worldwide, is 3 inches. Any bigger and you're playing around with something that's far more hazardous than it is going to be entertaining. Many mixtures are unstable in the way they're shown. Those with the knowledge ate aware that it's OK if you're going to use the composition right away, but will need to stabilise it, in a specific way differently from one mix to another. Many rules like this are simply taken for granted and may not be mentioned by someone who knows this. Those who are knowledgeable and experienced will bend a lot of rules too, because they know the safety margins, or are familiar enough they account for factors in other ways. So I see some very competent people being talkes down to, by people who know some safery rules, but not much about the details and their assumption they can do better is poorly grounded in fact. Anyway. You only die once and blowing yourself up by miscalculation of the risks and your knowledge, is as good as any way I suppose.
