    M wife saw this video. Guess what? She wants me to piece together a 4x8 butcher block island countertop to replace our old sad one that has a sink. She texted me the link to this video. I’m inspired. Question: I saw a company that sold hardware similar to yours for holding the pieces tight. Their instructions said not to use glue. Something about moisture and allowing for movement with the swelling and shrinking of wood as the humidity and temp change. ??? Obviously you haven’t had any issues.

    Does the IKEA oven have the same standard dimension as other U.S. brands? Saw a used good priced ikea oven and i'm planning to custom build the cabinet myself but worried about reconfiguring the cabinet once the need to replace the oven comes.Thx.

    • @jaredmyers3227
      @jaredmyers3227 2 месяца назад

      Yes they are standard sizes. Standard wall oven sizes typically run 24, 27 or 30 inches wide. The units themselves will be slightly smaller in order to fit inside. For example, a wall oven that requires a 30-inch width cutout may measure around 28 ½ inches wide. I hope that helps.

    • @jaredmyers3227
      @jaredmyers3227 4 месяца назад

      You probably could but you have to make sure you attach to studs, which might be problematic based on cabinet mounting points. When you mount standard wood cabinets the back wall is usually a solid piece of wood so you can put screws anywhere but with IKEA cabinets the back wall is a press board so you can not use it mount cabinet, the screws would pull through the pressed board or the rest of the cabinet would fall off the wall and the back would still be attached to the wall.

Thank you!

So far I have had no problems with it and haven't heard of anyone having issues with it. I would suggest doing a bit more research just to make sure you feel comfortable with your decision to go with one or not go with one.

  • @annagadsby596
    @annagadsby596 7 месяцев назад

    HEY! Have finished several Ikea kitchens: Their cabs hold up in every way and cost half of custom. You can DIY: Ikea kitchen online design tool will double-think you and can frustrate and the in-store designers may design too quickly and make mistakes. You'll do best yourself if you take time to draw it out but you have to learn the Ikea language/ not hard. Their laminate counter tops are just fine, look great and you don't have to WAIT for them like stone or synthetic quartz (if you can get over the feeling that you're being cheap). They have no good backsplash options (yet). I use tile after the counters are in. There will be GAPS! The cab SIZES are limited so you have to make it work in your space by measuring all dimensions thoroughly and being creative. They have products to fill gaps with trim pieces, end panels and stackable open shelves. Don't be afraid of the gaps between cab boxes!!! ALSO : leave (or use) a gap between wall and an upper cab box so the door can fully open (cover it with a narrow trim strip) or you'll have to shave down the door to get it to open by the wall. ALSO: plan for hardware to stick out from the fronts. It will limit an adjacent cab door or drawer( in a corner) from opening. ALSO: Double sinks can be a problem next to a corner because there may not be a base cab wide enough to accommodate the sink bottom. ( I don't try to fill the corners with active cabs either). He's right about delivery (very good deal) but it's not the charges as much as being patient (post pandemic) about waiting for the parts to be available.You'll probably make changes/mistakes and have several deliveries and their great RETURN policy will forgive you. DRAWERS: for sure try to plan all base cabs with drawers; much better than old fashioned doors and shelves. Don't cut or modify an Ikea cab box: it will end the warranty and weaken the box. Don't get their credit card unless you have a huge order to take advantage of a big discount, once. It's a very interest hungry card.

    • @jaredmyers3227
      @jaredmyers3227 9 месяцев назад

      I did not put any protection on block. My thought was if this is safe to mount on a laminate counter (that has pressed wood and glue) than it will be safe with butcher block. Plus the heating elements are pretty far from the edges and the appliance has a metal box around everyghing. There is also a gap between metal box and butcher block. The appliance rests on the butcher block around the edge and screws into the cabinet below. Keep following me I am working my way through my whole kitchen build and show all the steps. Did you check out the ikea website, they have colors and wood grain but I get what you are saying. Depends on the style you are going. I call it simple and clean, you call it boring and white, lol. Depends on the aesthetic you are going for. Which is taste based as well as what looks good in the style home you have. I wish you luck in your kitchen and I hope you find what you love!

    Bottom cabinets… definitely drawers please!

      Yesss, drawers all the way! No more crawling on the floor to reach the back of the cabinet. And let's not forget how satisfying it is to slide a drawer open and see all your kitchen gadgets neatly organized.

    Thanks for the ideas. What did you use for the push to open on the island doors? Also, your knife storage looks cool. What is that?

      Absolutely, the push open actuators I used on island doors are another item you spec out with the Ikea kitchen Designer in the store. The knife storage is from Ikea in the kitchen section with all the silverware organizing trays. They are rubber fingers that stick up and you place the knife in them.

    Great job! Just curious about the stud removal - was anything you removed load bearing and, if so, how did you compensate?

      great question, nothing was load bearing, so I did not have to compensate
