Pontins Brean Sands - A brief history - Slide Show
Originally opened in the 1930s this small 6-acre holiday camp was used during the war as a US army base. Fred Pontin bought the site in 1946 from the Dean family for £23,000 and it became the first ever Pontins holiday camp with a capacity of 200 guests in small wooden chalets. A few months later Pontin purchased his second camp, also from the Dean family, this time at Osmington Bay in Weymouth.
Facilities at Brean during that first year included the Tudor dining hall, a dance hall and a billiards room. Outside was a bowling green, putting green and two tennis courts. Chalets were equipped with electric lighting, lino floors and a hand basin with cold running water. Four meals a day were p...

How the holiday camp looked back in the 1970s and 1980s. Located in Ainsdale, about 4 miles south of the famous pier, this 26-acre seafront camp was built new by Pontins in 1969 at a cost of £2.5 million. It featured 700 self-catering chalets arranged in 66 two-storey apartment style blocks which were laid out in an unusual circular pattern. The construction company that built the camp was owne...

Before it became Pontins it was known as Squires Gate Holiday Camp. Here's a little photographic tribute to both eras. The brainchild of Herbert Pye Squires Gate developed during the early 1930s as a camping ground with tents. By the late 1930s the tents had been replaced by over a thousand wooden chalets and in 1939 a huge new dining hall, bar, 'grand piazza' and outdoor swimming pool were bui...
Pontins Hemsby - A brief history - Slide Show

Before it was Pontin's it was Maddieson's Holiday Camp. This slide show covers both eras as a tribute to the old camp which lasted for 88 years. Arguably the first proper holiday camp in the country, Hemsby was opened back in 1920 by Harry Maddieson, 16 years before Billy Butlin opened his first camp at Skegness. The little 9 acre full-board camp continued to be run by the Maddieson family for ...

A look back at the glory years of the Pontins Holiday Camp in Prestatyn. Covering 40-acres this purpose built self-catering camp was built in 1971 on land previously occupied by a stock car racing and greyhound track - the distinctive oval track still forms the internal road layout today. Prior to this it was a cricket ground. It has 820 chalets mostly arranged in two-storey apartment-style blo...
Wild West World, Park City, Kansas - Aerial views during construction

Wild West World was a new $30 million theme park located in Park City, Wichita. It opened in May 2007 but closed only two months later after falling into bankruptcy. It never reopened and the rides and buildings were later sold at auction. This great video explains it all: ruclips.net/video/YhHsM6Gdv5M/видео.htmlsi=IuRXQcbAbeiHQ3Jh These photos show the park shortly before it opened with some c...

SeaWorld Ohio, Aurora - Slide Show - Old photos from the 1970s
I used to go on holiday to Maddiesons at Hemsby with my parents and sister in the 1960s; we had such great times there. After Pontins took it over we started going to Seacroft just down the road, Pontins subsequently took that over, too. Thank you for posting.
I was a blue coat 1970 !1971 a great family holiday ,it has been so run down by Britannia it breaks my heart to see these other video s of it so derelict😢
That site is currently being turned into a new housing development called The Dunes. The structure of the brick chalets has been retained and will be used in the new houses.
Thanks, but the shots of the motel parking lot we could do without. They could have been taken in Trenton......
Never forgive what Cedar Fair did to this. So many childhood and adult memories there
The people are so well-dressed, presentable, at a healthy weight, and most of all look happier.
Thank you so much for this video. I worked in the paint shop from 1994-1998. Great to see all of these pictures.
I worked in the paint shop (1994-1998). Operated the automatic spray equipment. Very neat to see pictures of it. Wish I had more to look back on
I thought Buick City is the only plant in Flint, Michigan was only for buicks but it turns out it's for all the GM cars.
😢
What 60 des Lame ass click bate
This is how my dad remembers the auto show as a child of the 60s
Awe it brought back some good memories. Thank you
Thank you for the good times geauga lake sea world park
Buick still makes some of these same cars 35 years later
The 50s and 60s were the heyday of America, its been down hill ever since..
Wild West world will be that best ever!! Mark my word!! I guarantee it!!
I like the music
Detroit may get back on track again. Something has started, people at high places say. Stay positive.
I work as a pest control service guy. I drive through and around Atlantic City constantly. since I am originally from Pennsylvania, its interesting to view the grandeur of the city that once was. thanks
Any video with Detroit in the title gets crusty old racists in the comments, guaranteed
The last picture was taken from The Traymore Hotel, known as "The Sandcastle By The Sea." It was, at one time, the world's largest resort hotel and had Absecon Island's (where Atlantic City's located) first elevator. The Traymore was imploded in April 1972.
This would have been an interesting video had it not been for the horrendous music. Perhaps Motown?
and i grew up in the 60's with a drunk dad that was top car salemen in the entire region and his family, me and my 2 brothers and mom were on welfare and without a car most times. He would bring home a corvair and tell my mom she could have it if we cleaned it up so we scrubbed it and he would then sell it from underneath us, he did this several times.
Love the AMX prototype (probably at a 1966-7 show) and then the production AMX at a '68 show!
Thank goodness you took these because there's almost nothing left.
On Columbus circle ? 😊
Belle Isle, the Boblo Boat, Hudson's and Sanders! United Artist and Fox theater!.Tigers stadium! Bettermade, Vernors and Faygo!. Then came the sixties! Remember don't go past 8 Mile! It was great while it lasted!
The music ruins the video
Lovely evocative music.
I have many happy memories of pontins it's so sad to think that they are all going to be closed down forever..😢
This must be back when most had pride in their community, their family and themselves.
No more holiday for the Brits. Migrants holiday on the tax payers!
What?
all the Whites people left and now you have a bunch of idiots that like to shoot each other and blame it on poverty
How cool that video was of seeing the NY auto show back in the sixties, I've never seen a video of that before, I'd love to see more like that
These would be really great with an explanation on the pictures, before I understand what I am looking at the picture has moved on, maps really help expand the understanding too.
Hope it reopens next season 🙏
I remember going to Hudson with my mother and father looking at the Christmas displays. Bob-lo in the summer also the Detroit Zoo. When the zoo had the chimpanzee show. Picnics with the family at Belle- Isle💜
It was a crap place to grow up in the 60s and is a thousand times worse now.
REGINALD
Look at this video and all the videos of Detroit in yester years. They are mostly Caucasian people. When the BLM people moved in, no matter where they moved in, they left behind death, destruction, violence, looting etc. Detroit had knee ga rism problem.
Yeah, I grew up in Detroit in the 50's and 60's and remember it well...the good and the bad like the riots and how it affected my neighborhood and the white flight that resulted.
Oh man...I grew up going to Astroworld. It's crazy to see it taken down.
😮
Heartbreaking.
Is that an elephant
Yes! The world's only water skiing elephant...
Then the jobs left and the crack entered
People blaming unions 😂 ya, nothing worse than workers having a voice lol
