What Did Jesus Mean by Loving Your Fellow Christians? (John 13:31-35) - Broadman Word for 11/7/2024
The word "love" has a lot of meaning and for good reason! Love can be great! But when Jesus uses the word "love," what does He mean by that? Well first off, the original Greek for this word, agape, is referencing an unconditional love. What a beautiful picture! However, does unconditional love mean love by accepting everything? Based off His time with His disciples, I think what makes it unconditional is that Jesus loves His followers so much, that He is ready to hold them accountable and discipline them when needed. That then is how He wants His followers to love our fellow Christians. That is both a beautiful and important reminder.

Walking with God like Enoch Did (Gen. 5:21-24) - The Broadman Word for November 5, 2024
Просмотров 164 часа назад
What ever happened to Enoch in the Bible? Did he literally just take a walk one day and never came back? In a way, yes! But of course it is more than that. Enoch's account is very short, but yet he shows us that the best way to have a relationship with the Lord is to spend time with Him like you would with a friend. In Enoch's day, he didn't have the written Bible or Bible apps, but we do. Ther...

What Is the Prayer of Jabez? (1 Chron. 4:9-10) - The Broadman Word for October 29, 2024
Просмотров 921 час назад
The prayer of Jabez is a very short two verse section amongst the genealogy of Judah in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10. It may seem random by its parenthetical structure, however, it paints the importance of two things. First, prayer is a main topic in Chronicles, especially praying for the blessing of your family and land. Second, this prayer is important because it shows that no matter what situation or...

Why Idolatry Is Mentioned So Much in Scripture (Ex. 32) - The Broadman Word for October 24, 2024
Просмотров 7914 дней назад
Throughout Scripture, and especially in the Old Testament, idolatry is one of the main vices mentioned. Why would this be? The form of idolatry may have changed over time, but idolatry is still very much an issue that needs to be avoided by those who follow after Jesus today. Today, we will look at one example of idolatry in Scripture and the consequences that follow it. I hope that this will h...

The Christian and a Presidential Election, Part 2 - After the Election (Rom. 13:1-7) - BW 10/17/2024

It is great to be back after recovering my voice from illness. As with part 1, this video is NOT political. I am not telling you who to vote for, because that is not the role of a pastor. Instead, with part 2, I really wanted to focus on the Sovereignty of God. Whether your candidate wins or loses, God has given authority to whoever is in government. Therefore, as a believer, it would be wrong ...

Are You Just More Noise? (1 Cor. 13:1-5) - The Broadman Word for August 23, 2024
Because our hearts are little idol factories.
That is such a great point! We are definitely made to worship, so it really boils down to what we are worshipping. Thanks so much for pointing that out!
Oh, here is the story of this god who commanded "Thou Shalt Not Kill" and right after issuing this commandment, had thousands of the Hebrews slaughtered on his command. Nice!
But why was this action done against them? It was because they betrayed the Lord by making up a "god" of gold and worshipping it instead. That level of betrayal needed to be dealt with in the very young age of this country after their deliverance from Israel. The "thou shalt not kill" commandment has often led to the idea of pacifism in war, which is certainly an interesting topic for a different day. Here though, I believe that this commandment is discussing the murder of innocents, or cold-blooded murder. That though is not the case in Exodus 32. It may seem extreme at first upon reading, but when you realize that God's standard is perfection, which is why we need Jesus, this discipline and act in Exodus 32 is just simply justice. Once again, as I mentioned in your other comment, Philip, God could have destroyed the whole people for this, which He would have been justified in doing so, but instead He leaves a remnant behind. I realize seeing the verbiage you used that you have preconceptions, and thus won't change your mind most likely, but I hope that you will at least think about the above. I appreciate you for taking your time to comment though.
Because the megalomaniacal mass murdering warrior god felt threatened by anything that questioned his authority.
Philip, God is not just a God of grace though in Scripture. In order to be a God of grace, He really needs to also be a God of justice. God's standard is perfection, so any failure of man cannot be in His presence, unless He showed them grace. Israel not only disobeyed the Lord here in Exodus 32, but spat at everything He did in rescuing them from Egypt. The people absolutely deserved justice upon them for that act. Now if God was truly a megalomaniacal mass murdering warrior god, Israel would have been wiped off the face of the planet right here in Exodus 32, but instead he decides to save a remnant of them. I finally believe the ones that died in Exodus 32 were the ones that betrayed the Lord and served the golden calf. I realize seeing the verbiage you used that you have preconceptions, and thus won't change your mind most likely, but I hope that you will at least think about the above. I appreciate you for taking your time to comment though.
@@broadmanbaptistchurch1435 I am so happy for you that nonsense, wishful, irrational thinking and delusion makes perfect sense to you.
I agree 100%.....there are many things I cannot do or is not God's will for me to do....but He will help me through every situation as I live for Him.

Love
Wonderful word of god
Im a gay Jew happily gay married with a kid and live with so much peace knowing Hashem made me exactly the way I'm supposed to be and how to read the Torah with an open mind and heart to find the love in even the most shocking verses. Some people are built differently and are given special challenges in life and for me being gay was one of them. I have been told over and over by Hashem that I am gay and there's nothing I can do to change it and I'm not meant to live a sad and lonely life either. Keshet has a great article breaking down the original Hebrew and several possible meanings of this verse.
First off, thank you for your reply and being civil within your reply also. Second, I can tell that this is a personal, and I am sure emotional, topic for you and I understand why you have written what you have written. Third, we are to read the Old Testament (the Torah) and the New Testament with love in mind, but it is the love of God, not what we deem to be. Fourth, I agree completely that we are all built uniquely (and yet all in the Imago Dei), with those different challenges in life. Fifth, I believe Scripture has called us to live life not depending on who we are and what is best for me, but Scripture calls us to live life with God as the center of our desires and actions. Our culture does not depict Scripture, but instead Scripture helps us in how we view culture. This also includes how we view sexual relationships. Finally, based on the original ancient Hebrew, there is not one meaning for the Hebrew word for "abomination" that has a positive connotation. So I am not sure where you could be going with that. Also, in other parts of the Old Testament, it is shown time and again that the action or practice of homosexual acts breaks the heart of God, which then is backed up by the New Testament, for those who follow Jesus. At the end of the day, what is my identity? The Bible and Jesus have called us to live with Him as our identity, anything else would be idolatry, even good things as relationships. But with being a follower of Jesus as my identity, that then trickles down in how I relate with those around me, what I do and what I say. I realize I will not change your mind, but I appreciate you replying to this video.
Brother, turn from homosexuality, it is detestable.
100% agree.....
Did you know they were on there even one day? You're reading a myth. 😂
I kindly would have to disagree with you. You are absolutely free to see Genesis 7-8 as a myth, but I strongly believe that the flood occurred. First, the Bible is the very words of God. In order to believe this, you must believe there is a God. If you don’t believe this, there isn’t much I can do to show you why I believe the flood happened that you would believe in. Second, with there being so many ancient cultural accounts of a global flood, I think this points to this event happening. But as a follower of Jesus, I believe in the Biblical account above all. I appreciate you taking the time to comment so we could have this discussion.
The friction alone from that amount of water moving would have heated the surface of the earth to several THOUSAND degrees F. This myth is one of the most laughable, physically impossible that is contained in any religious text
Not to mention its literally just a plagiarism of the epic of gilgamesh

I appreciate you taking the time to comment so we could have this discussion. When it comes to the epic of Gilgamesh, I do have to say that I have enjoyed reading the epic. I don’t believe however that either the epic or the Biblical account are plagiarizing one another. I believe that the epic was inspired by the vocal accounts passed down since the flood. Let’s say the epic was written around 2100-2000 BC, which the oldest Sumerian cuneiform dates it to. I do believe that Moses, as the human author of the Book of Genesis, wrote after this time. However, I believe that the flood happened much earlier than the epic was written. So since the Bible is the very written Word of God, God inspired Moses what to write even though it happened much earlier than when the Book of Genesis was written. When it comes to the temperatures caused by the water friction, I honestly don’t know and I will certainly look into that. Thanks for bringing that piece of information up for me to look into! I really enjoyed your response even though I am sure we would disagree on a decent amount of things, thanks for having this discussion!
I’m sorry, but you can’t just make a statement so bold as this and not back it up with any kind of contextual evidence.
I wish I could have gone more into the specific verses in Genesis 7 & 8, but I only had 15 seconds. The linked video towards the bottom does go more into that contextual evidence you are looking for. But check out the time stamps in Genesis 7:11 and 8:13-14. That is why I believe they were on the ark for a year or a little bit longer than a year. I hope that answers your question and thanks for that question!
