John McLaggan | Interview With Mastering Engineer
Просмотров 12 тыс.5 месяцев назад
During the last few months, I have spent a lot of time recording and mixing some of my own music. When I came to the end of the mixing stage and faced the obvious question - what should I do about this whole "mastering" thing? After watching a ton of mastering tutorials on RUclips before I had an idea - why not reach out to my friend John McLaggan, mastering engineer at Parachute Mastering here...

This is the best version I've heard
GREAT video! Thanks for sharing
What’s the song that plays in the background while he speaks at the end of the video?? Thank you!
Mastering is the only part of the process that can't be "fixed in post". I think they have the hardest job
Do the socks help with the sound?
They add just a teeny bit more dampening to those really low frequencies...
Loved the socks!
I wish I knew what I really wanted to be when I was Kid, like a sound engineer or master engineer , forget the Moon and Mars
Very inspiring, thanks Juanita!
Cool video!
Give me a f'n break!
Love the video! What's the song starting minute 8?
The song is called "Take Me Home" by a due called "Channel 13". I licensed it through Artlist.
@@jordanmattievisuals Thanks for your reply. Great content man!
A quick rundown of the gear at the end would be perfect. We all want to drool 🤤
Great video, it was a fascinating interview and the production is on point.
great video! more!! :)
a true master!
The mastering engineer should never be questioned.
Respectfully you should question everything lol, the mastering engineer may make it sound great according to him but youre paying him to make it sound the way you want. A good one should be able to adjust what you want or explain the choices they made but youre paying for a service for your art
Wow, Clean and Clear : to the POINT ! thank you verymuch <3
thanks for the fun and informative interview. I would love to see a gear run down of the tools in the desk and speakers hes using
We shot that too but it didn't make it into this video... might be coming out in an upcoming video!
@@jordanmattievisuals we just emailed John about exactly this!
Truly a well done, beautifully shot & edited interview. Loved watching this.
Most people these days are using loops and chord packs to make their songs because they can't play or write music. They don't really care about the music so they don't have an issue using AI or some algorithm. The real ones would not use AI.
trust me guys if they got 100ks worth of gear they arent using dogshit plugins nice room btw most mastering studios look like hospitals
What about good plugins, or are they all dogshit?
This is so beautifully shot! The room, the gear, the audio, video editing just works in tandem throughout the video. I could watch this all day.
@MarkDanov Thanks so much! Glad you like it.
I am fully in belief that an actual Mastering Engineer is the way to go. Especially if you have an album or an EP to release. The cohesion with all the songs is critical in my opinion. Hats off to Mastering Engineers.
beautiful! john is the BEST.
Such a MASSIVE fan of John! He makes my mixes sound far better than when he got them! Love the collaboration! Pro all the way...
Your channel is bound to grow with this level of production quality. Brilliant work
Really Enjoyed this video! Quality is great, love the format!
Great vid!
Awesome!!
I visited your RUclips channel and saw that your video content is very good but the problem is that the views of your videos are very low. The solution is that the videos should be SEO properly. What will happen if your videos will be first in the RUclips search results. If you want, I can help you to rank the videos. Can you please let me know
This looks amazing. Could you please share details/contacts of the planning team who organized the wedding?

Nobody should donate to these murderers.
Had the pleasure of playing with Clifford at his home and Norm's house many times. Such a wonderful man.

It’s so annoying that DJI couldn’t figure a way to integrate a record button into their $200.00 thumb controller. I assumed this was the case considering it’s a no brainer and obvious necessity. Jokes on me for not reading into the dictions/specs
Can you plug a monitor next to the trigger. The cable plug seems really thick.
Thanks for the tip! Do you know of any similar devices like this one that could control not only the start/stop recording but also the focus?
Cool color grading!
Hi Jordan thanks for the awesome tip. Just curious if you own the 1 metre version or the 3 metre version, will be picking this up for my Ronin-M / A6500 and need to know the proper length. Thanks!
Hey Colin. The remote I use with my Ronin-m is roughly 140cm long. It's a bit longer than I need so I just bunch up the cable and Velcro it to the Ronin. If you only have options of buying a 1 meter or 3 meter cable, I would definitely go with the 1 meter. That length should work well for your Ronin-m setup.

Hi, do we need external ND filter after using all internal ND in full sun, if we are using clog iso 850 with F1.8 iris?
Hi Zaro. Yes, you will need external ND if you want to shoot at f/1.8 in the full sun. The C100 makii gives you 6 stops of internal ND. So if you're shooting at ISO 850 in full sun, with 6 stops of internal ND, I think that will get you to around f/5.6... although I'm not 100% sure. I'd have to test it out again.
Jordan Mattie thank you :)
Jordan Mattie as i remember, when i rented it, i didnt use the CLog, i used the p6 or p3 profile with wide dr gamma, it gave me same flatness of the Clog... I did that to get the opertunity of using noise reduction since the Log profile is locked... So my question is, do i need to shoot at 850 iso in that case... Personaly, there is no sense to buy this camera if i have to use external accessories as if i still have a dslr
did you expose to the right in camera? beautiful footage btw
Thanks Nathan. Yes, I'm pretty sure I exposed around 1/3 to 2/3 stops over.
