Cave Tubing Jaguar Paw
Просмотров 4224 года назад
Our last stop on the mainland of Belize before heading out to Caye Caulker was this awesome cave tubing excursion at Jaguar Paw. There was plenty to see on the forty minute hike through the jungle, from iguanas to birds and squirrels, and the river at the mouth of the cave flowed with the kind of clear blue water that you only see in vacation magazines. Tapir spotting on Chan Chich Night Drive
Просмотров 994 года назад
Baird's Tapir, the national animal of Belize, is Central America's largest mammal. It's an herbivore, and is equipped with a prehensile trunk which it uses to pick leaves to eat. Though it looks like a small elephant, the tapir's closest relatives in the animal kingdom are the rhinoceros and horse. This tapir was spotted on a safari night drive at Chan Chich Lodge (www.chanchich.com).

I loved Xunantunich, you can explore it yourself! It was real fun to stand on top of the pyramid pretending to command legions of bloodthirsty Mayan warriors lined up on the plaza below you to go ravage the neighboring villages and gather fresh prisioners we can sacrifice to the gods after we make them play our rubber ball game.

Ahhh this is amazing! I know this may sound crazy, but in 2019, i was part of the crew that excavated Plaza B at Xunantunich (the “new excavation” shown off in your video! It warms my heart to see it after these many years away… we havnt been allowed back for nearly three years due to travel restrictions (covid obvi) but this video helped ease a bit of my heartache!

Whaaaat, that's incredible!! That means so much, thank you for commenting and sharing! I'm so happy you found our video, and that it was able to bring you back to your trip. It must have been such an incredible experience to work on that site! Such a dream! And thank YOU, for being part of that excavation! It was such a cool and memorable part of our trip to Xunantunich to see it and find out that it had just been restored. We went in October 2019, and the longing to want to go back is REAL. One of the most magical places. Here's to hoping we're both able to return there someday soon!

It was a really wonderful experience, and yes, the fish were pretty chill about us coming into their nice quiet spot :). The hike to get to the waterfall is pretty easy and mostly flat as well. When we stayed at Chan Chich Lodge, this wasn't something that was listed under the excursions they offered, but we received a tip from one of the guides at the lodge that they'll take you if you ask. So if you do go to the lodge and want to do this, just make sure to ask them about it!

Derrick was our driver, and he was awesome! We did our tour through the Cahal Pech Village Resort, which had pretty comparable prices to any other tour company in San Ignacio. Not sure whether Derrick is still there or not, but if he is we can't recommend him enough!

@@adirondackexplorers2941 Thank you so much for replying. I will look into hiring him when we next visit, if he's still in business. I've only been inland to tour Lamanai, go cave tubing, and zip-lining. Hubby and I want to see more of Western Belize, so we're planning a stay in San Ignacio. Belize is our future home in about five years, or so and I'd love to see more of it.

Jealous! We've talked about wanting to move there one day. It's such an amazing country! San Ignacio is a wonderful city to visit, and there's so much to do around it. Xunantunich is definitely worth the time, and it's just outside the city. Cahal Pech is another very cool ruin, and that one is right IN the city. We just walked there. Hope you enjoy your next trip there! Lamanai is one we're hoping to see next time.

This tour was incredible! I usually prefer snorkeling without tour guides, since you can take more time...but considering how many places the guides took us and how amazing it all was, it's hard to beat. 4 times over ten years of trips!! That's awesome. It's such a magical ruin. Definitely worth the crazy drive to get there. We were hoping to go back last year, but with everything happening in the world we ended up having to scrap that trip, so I hear you on missing it. Such a wonderful country to visit. That's pretty funny about the Cahal Pech Resort tree house you stayed in! Loved staying there. We did get a chance to check out Cahal Pech as well, hoping to get a short video up for that in the future as well. (Currently working on one for Tikal.) I'll check out some of the vids of your travels! Thanks so much for watching. I hope you get to go back to Belize soon!
