Managing Your Own Triggers While Supporting Clients - ENCORE

I want to encourage you to remember that you are human too, and it is likely as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic together that you might be triggered while helping your clients.

    Trying to help an adult client sort through a long string of trauma history- very stuck in a victim/disabled mindset, client talks a lot of content, expresses an interest in processing trauma but ultimately avoids it. How can I help her process her traumas in a bite size way?

    • @thetraumatreatmentcollecti859
      @thetraumatreatmentcollecti859 4 месяца назад

      Sounds like this client is not ready I would work more on stabilization and skills needed to process. I would track the avoidance and potential verbal flooding over t time and once they both decrease consistently maybe try processing again. These are types of questions I love to support helping professionals through. Feel free to consider a paid personal or group consult in the future at the link… traumatreatmentcollective.com/consultation-2/

You were one of my favorite informative supervisors and I a forever grateful for you Nina. Thank you for everything.

    I can't like this enough! I'm a masters-level intern in the final semester of my mental health counseling program, and this is what I've been needing for MONTHS. I've learned how to identify PTSD but not at all how to treat it, save for being told "CBT is an evidence based treatment". Like, my client can't sit straight in a chair! How am I supposed to discuss their thoughts and behaviors and expect that to just *magically work*?! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. This has set me on the right course!

      I agree. I just finished my MMFT program & although we learned theories during school, there wasn't much of "how to ACTUALLY" do the therapy -- like the approach, questions to ask/not ask, etc. I feel like I still don't know what to do when clients come to me with a lot of trauma.
