MuseScore Virtual Percussion Demo

Excerpt from Q2 2024. Wanted to test out the VDL sounds and a couple other libraries (VOXOS choirs and CinePerc). Overall, pretty big fan. Just a good amount of bugs that aren't life changing, but annoying. A few examples: marimba tremolos releasing a chord that's not notated and also not following crescendos/decrescendos, buzzes on tenor puffies or snares on edge soundflag don't work, etc. Dyn...

Drumline Comparison: MS3, Muse Sounds, VDL

I took an excerpt from a movement I've written and put it across the 3 different libraries. I apologize for no cymbals :/ Let me know your thoughts on the libraries! My personal opinions: VDL remains king (duh), MS3 drums sound great for what they are (and I think they have my favorite shot sounds!), and Muse Sounds is lacking for me at the moment but still good. I don't like that the default o...

What an interesting collection of music libraries you used for this piece. May I ask why you chose each one for each section?
They’re just the ones I own. I didn’t wanna spend money on every collection so I just spent it on the packs I liked the best.
@@j-raydimalanta9991 Valid
If my family buy it to me, then can I use it forever in the same account?
Excuse me. Which instruments did you use?
they should put this music in an indoor drumline show
big fan of the virtual percussion, will say the two spocks on tenors are very similar in pitch, makes it hard to tell the difference between them
Yeah I noticed that, when you try to do double stops with them it makes a weird robotic sound. I also noticed some of the puffie sounds aren't mapped correctly (ie drum 1 sounds like spock)
how did u get the vibraphone transcribe? im looking everywhere still not getting it
A lot of guessing really. I have trouble using my ear with a lot of moving parts so it was a combo of using my eyes in different videos and seeing what parts/chord structures they shared with the other instruments
pretty close
apparently musescore cant fathom cleanlines
It lengthens everything. Use noteperformer if you want food playback. There are 0 articulations
neither can bd so it works out!

Musescore FIX 👏 THE 👏 DYNAMICS 👏
Damn this is insane…I’m in love
Best bass sounds on the market in my opinion! Sounds chunky with the right amount of beef in the unisons. I’m not mad at the tenors either. I like the difference in sound for solo tenor and tenor line from little tests I have done. I’m a fan of these muse sounds! The snares sounds are good as well. It does get dirty on faster rolls but that’s gotta be tough to get right. Trying to find a balance of cleanliness depending on what you are programming it to play is a hard task. The rolls could sound cleaner if the sample is a very tight snare sample but that same sample could sound too tight or even fake if it’s something like a quarter note. So if they are using the same sample for a quarter note and a fast triplet roll, the roll is going to sound dirty. I wonder if there would be a way to use very tight samples anytime the program recognizes that there are fast consecutive notes. Over all, this new drumline update is my favorite because it actually sounds real depending on what it’s playing! Well done Musescore and thanks for uploading this video @jay-ray
Sounds like Bounce house!
In B5 we trust
this brings a whole new meaning to "written dirt"
one of the sequences of notes of all time
pretty accurate!!!
DID YOU GET VDL TO WORK???? It wont let me buy it??
Tom Rarick type groove at the beginning☠️
Is it just me or does the Musesounds drumline sound worse than its predecessor on ms3? I mean I can hear the improvements in the architecture but it just doesnt sound as nice overall to me
It’s great that they used a world class corps to record the sounds but man, those Ludwig drums simply not the right move, they don’t sound good in any context
if you think any brand of drums sounds awful you know nothing about drums
@@eboone you clearly weren’t around for the system blue era
I've always asked why they used the Blue Devil's drums when they could have easily used SCV or Bloo's Drums
How do you get muescore 4 drumline?
I can’t get the buzz sound simply by adding the Z on the not. I have to tab it down to a different note head for that sound in Muscore3. Any idea how to make it this way?
Thank you for this wonderful information! (I have some examples to the new paid Muse Sound comparisons on my channel!)
How do you get the DB-90 sounding metronome? It's awesome.
It's so weird hearing Audrey in MDL 4
VDL I didn't hear anything
thank you!
I know you
I cant say I'm a huge fan of the musesounds version, the long triplet roll literally sounds dirty somehow, and this is just a personal preference, but I don't like low quad tuning, and the quads sound like they're playing on really cheap heads and the shot are really thin too. I do like how the basses sound though. I think each has their strengths. In my opinion, ms3 has the best quads, ms4 has the best basses, and vdl has the best snares.
The thin sounds are definitely due to the default solo player, but the line versions are worse as they are super muddy. I plan on releasing another demonstration video with that (and cymbals lol) in mind. The Muse Sound basses are ALMOST there for me, just a little too punchy and dry for my tastes. I agree with you on everything else!
Did you use Musescore for the VDL portion? If so, How did you get the Basses to actually play what was notated? Mine refuse to ;(
I did! Not sure if you've seen the video by Lukease (ruclips.net/video/oZqzOgNBiOc/видео.html if you haven;t) but he had made custom DRM files for a majority of the samples which I use. The Google Drive link is in his video description!
VDL dynamics sound great but for some reason I like musescore 3 sounds more maybe because that’s what im used to, also fire beats bro!
thanks man! I think MS3 has my favorite quads of the bunch and I love the shot sounds from upper battery. Definitely a game changer a couple years back
I'm gonna kind of go on a rant about MIDI a little too. VDL understands accents properly, but honestly I think it's too exaggerated, cause even though everything should be low unless accented (basically), it's almost too low, almost sounds like little feather taps, in a real situation it would pretty obviously be much louder. Or if I'm wrong, it's at least too quiet for MIDI, cause more times than not, this audio will be behind a band, and these are just too quiet to be realistic enough to use as a reference to play to when practicing. But, I am viewing it as though I was in a room with just a snare, so maybe I have a little high of an expectation of how loud it should be. The new MuseDrumline sounds like it's aware that accents should be more obvious, but it still uses dynamic markings to determine the sound of the whole measure, even if there are accents present in the measure. And the MuseDrumline still just has countless flaws lol. Crescendos are just a hot mess, tiny subject change, it's the same with the Spitfire sounds on Solo Trumpet, mp accent is tiny, and a mf accent is HUGE, it's ridiculous, so you can imagine that paired with a crescendo from mp to mf is awful. Obviously I'm expecting a LOT from MIDI, but one day I hope MIDI will get to the point that it just kinda sounds like a real recording (obviously I understand it's basically impossible to emulate the exact sound of the field, but you get what I mean), it's extremely helpful to play to at least for me, I mean we're already almost there, it just needs touch ups, cause the drumline sounds sound real enough now, another step we could take to get there is finally getting soundfonts (at least in MuseScore, idk of any applications that do have these) for instruments like Mellos, MARCHING Baritone Horns, and actual Contras or Sousa sounds instead of using the basic Tuba and French Horn sounds given. There's a long way to go, but honestly we're close enough, it'd be so nice to hear exactly what your show will sound and save some time on the field as a director.
To be fair, I have a lot of hidden dynamics in all three demonstrations just to make it more “human” but the software can feel finicky with it sometimes (ie I can’t hear MP taps after a F accent in Muse Sounds drumline or VDL just completely stopping the sound of F to get to MP) I also had the mix the same all throughout the three variations. While I agree with your VDL points in this demonstration, I’ve been using it through the Kontakt VST recently and for whatever reason it’s super quiet on Musescore unless you turn their mix all the way up (especially quads). I’m hoping the Muse Hub edition solves these issues!
@@j-raydimalanta9991 Ohh I see, my bad, but but yeah I'm excited to see where all this MIDI can go.
@@j-raydimalanta9991I used Kontakt VDL through MS as well and I noticed that before 4.4, musescore didn’t automatically input velocity changes with whatever dynamics you put, hence the “quiet” sound (ie if you played an accent at fff, the velocity would remain the same but it would just sound louder). But now that issue is fixed 😁
i don't even like cymbals
What program is this?
What sound libraries did you use?
For the brass, it was a combination of MS Basic sounds and the General User sounds since Muse Sounds don't work well for drum corps music imo. Still looking for better sounds though. For the Flugelhorn there was a soundfont that I found on Musescore forums called JL_Flugelhorn For the percussion, Virtual Drumline and some libraries I had installed on Kontakt (Glaze and Hybrid Keys)
