Using my SecondBrain to Create A New Game
Просмотров 31Месяц назад
In this video, I give a real-life example of how I used my second brain to help me dream up and create a new service for GameTruck. Called Culture Kitchen (and TeamCraft), I researched cooperation and team building, then used what I learned to make a new program and eventually develop a video game. The understanding I developed through capturing and linking information gave me insights into how...
How I Really Use Obsidian
Просмотров 400Месяц назад
This is the video I have been reluctant to make because it uses so many of my tools and techniques, I was afraid it would be overwhelming. HOWEVER, I now realize that it would be valuable to share when I started using Obsidian, why I do what I do, and how I do it. I use Obsidian, not to be more productive (it does that), and not to be more organized (it does that too), but I use it because it 1...

    I agree, we are stuck in a loop where negative news makes money. There is too much information and I find myself listening to podcasts or old lectures. And it’s not worth getting stressed out about some story that ends up being fake anyhow or exaggerated. This is a tough topic since a lot of fear is used which hacks most peoples logic… I found a shortcut on my iPad to quickly have it read text which has been helpful.

    Hey, I appreciate your honesty and sharing how you got started. Obsidian is such a flexible tool and I can get distracted with the bells and whistles. Sometimes I pretend I’m building my own Holocron (Sith from Star Wars, not sure if Jedi have something similar. I have a chaotic system, I take screenshots on my iPad during videos or if I find some interesting fact and see where it takes me. Then I dump these screenshots in a temp folder and then decide if it’s worth saving, doing more research or putting into the maybe later folder. I do read a lot but I need physical books so I can write notes in the pages. In a perfect world I would start using Footnote or even us data view but I will get lost (I’ve tried, I’m on vault number 4 or 5 now. Yeah I use a few google chrome plug ins to grab links and text. Man I know there are killer plug ins and I should just use sync, dunno why I just haven’t put Obsidian on my iPad (iOS). I’ve tried organizing my book collection several times using different techniques, but as long as I can find notes later, after, I am happy. For me, the challenge is to keep my ideas flowing and not to get into technical stuff or productive procrastination (re organizing folders or titles of notes etc. Between GPT and Obsidian, I’m doing endless research and working on a worldbuilding project for fun. Your a natural speaker, easy to follow and I like how you focused on learning, working with ideas etc. Oh yea, I am also avoiding editing PDFs for now. I have a collection of tons of journals.

    There's an Xmind plugin right inside Obsidian: Plugin installation: • Settings -> Third Party Plugins -> Community Plugins (Overview) • In the search, write Xmind, install • Turn on the "Enable" button

    Nice! I have been using MindMaps for a while, but I have found they are not optimal for easy search or linking information across several "maps". Obsidian does a great job at this, but I do not like the way it handles images and documents (making a copy in an endless list of media). This way you get the "visual" benefits of mind mapping softwares like Xmind, but then also have a more "PKM" and text-only oriented copy inside Obsidian. It takes a couple extra steps but I think its worth it. Keep in mind Xmind is local only as well, and their sharing capabilities are not optimal. There are better alternatives out there for syncing with your phone and collaborating with others, but the idea is still the same. Kudos.

      @@andresviera5059 Can you help me understand, what is "mind map" format to you? Do you mean that you thought it would look like a mind map inside of Obsidian?

    • @andresviera5059
      @andresviera5059 Месяц назад

      @@ScottNovis exactly, i was expecting that it has a mind map structure in obsidian. maybe works better using the canvas option of obsidian. Also, If you´re making not much complex mindmaps, there´s a plugin in obsidian that works pretty well, and if you want to convert the mindmap into text, works better than exporting an md file with xmind

    This RUclips video is great. However, the idea that busy-ness equates to productivity and more productivity can be had by organizing the chaos, is as pernicious as the modern marketing slogan "Save 20% on our black-friday sale." Which actually equates to "Save money by spending it." Which of course is a lie. One saves money by NOT spending it. Real productivity comes about by synthizing information and that takes: 1) effort, 2) time, 3) thinking. Those obviously require introspection. That is unplugging from our busy-ness. The improvements over the original ONIL are very impressive. Is the fire chamber pumice formed with sodium silicate? I was going to use perlite with some native clay and sodium silicate, versus clay/sawdust fired to create insulative fire brick (ala Aprovecho plans). Good works.
