Did you ever consider building a tumbler to clean the paper and varnish off the copper? They used to have tumblers with lead balls to clean coins. Looks pretty simple to build a big one for your copper. Just like a rock tumbler. Just add sand and copper. A little bit of work and get number 1 for all of it.

I dismantle them with as little cutting as possible- less waste. I don't mind if it takes a bit longer as they only turn up one or two at a time.

1) Use wire cutter pliers to take steel lever off. Angle grinders are dangerous & shouldn't be used if not necessary. 2) Punch flat screwdriver thru inside cup & out towards outlet. 3) If cup tilts, remove using wire cutter pliers. 4) Once cup removed, everything unscrews easily, done.

I have three 5 gal buckets of these and was trying to figure the best way to clean them and your way looks easy enough. about 90 cents deference between clean and dirty per pound so it is well worth it to clean them. now I am on my way to try it out. looks easy enough. thanks again.

Hi, Good video. We had a freezer go out on us in the restaurant a few weeks ago. I didn't know the little black fan motor had copper in it. I thought it was all metal. I'm not sure sure if it's worth my time cutting it open to get the copper out. I have the tools to open it.

Nice size. I stripped a 1977 arc welder that was much easier- the heavy frame was put together so the coils just slid off after some brackets unbolted. The 4.5mm copper wire was coated only with braided cloth- I unwound the coils imto about 40' lengths, cut it into 2 foot sections and ran them several times through the stripper and the cloth wiped straight off leaving clean bare bright. That welder boasted copper windings on a sticker! Stripped a welder from the early 60's but it was all ally windings- just the welding cables were copper and a few brass fittings. G'day from South Australia!

Good video, but every move you do appears reversed when we view this, and maybe check for your sound recording it is unstable by times. In the maintenance, shouldn't it be a good thing to clean (De grease) the gear box and look for ware and tare once in a while ?

I have done it that way. But prefer cutting them outside the metal and then pulling the metal off !! But there's no wrong way !!! 😊
