About an hour into it, the sound and picture got all out of whack.

I loved Original movie. No need to CLUTTER it up with all this back story. I am glad extra stuff was not swept in trade from cutting room floor. But this long a movie would not been watched like original showing.

After watching this movie I decided to do some research on Hiroshima. I read about a book based on real people and there was a doctor named Dr. Hachiya. Notice how when the minuteman missiles went off, they zoomed in on Sam Hachiya? I think they named him that on purpose. He came here for a better life. When Danny asked him where he was from he seemed very ashamed.

Well done remaster! It was always interesting seeing the buildup of the conflict. When they mentioned sealing of West Berlin it made me think of the Berlin Blockade and airlift in 1948. Thankfully it never escalated and the Soviets never attempted it again.

All of congress, Senate plus other politicians should be forced to watch this. I saw this back in 83 when I was a sophomore in highschool. And had nightmares for about 2 weeks.

I have this on dvd, but haven't watched it for years. It was on TV when I was 10 and has left a lasting impression on me since then. Just think for a second....much of the bombing scenes are of old nuclear test footage. Look how powerful they were back then. Now, think about what we have now. It'll only take one. Thanks for posting this. The world still need a reminder from time to time. We only have one life and planet. We don't get another.

Thanks for the remastering , good work ...the intro is poignant , basically showing what is about to be destroyed / rendered unusable from irradiation. Was 12 at the time , living in the UK very near a US Air Force radar / intelligence facility , a Royal Air Force base & a civil airport ( Luton ) 13 miles away , all first strike targets....you will be aware of the British equivalent Threads , centered on a large yield burst over Sheffield , a major British city , which was even more bleak than this movie , pulled no punches

A masterpiece because of the message. No CGI. No big bucks actors. Just a movie with a message. And it worked. I was young in my teens seeing this. Me and my parents did not sleep well that night. A true horror movie.

They played this in Russia during the end of the Cold War. no lie. It terrified a lot of them.

Good job I hope they redo The Day After, for a more up to date modern version. Also include what was missing from this version. Jet liner approaching the airport with the detonation in progress, people on fire , getting blown out of buildings, eyeballs melting, etc

I remember the scene when the white horse is running across the field. In this one, it's when he is startled at our missiles being released. In the one I saw in the 80's, he was running across the field when the bombs hit and exploded & he became one of those x-ray red visions like the wedding. As a 12 year old when I watched this for the first time, that horse scene really got to me.

In reality, IMO, since the Hendrys are right next to the missile silo, they'd be vaporized, not burned by the fireball; yeah, it'd still be horrible, but it'd also be merciful in a way... Robards' character's daughter dying like she did was horrible enough (and brutal for 1983), but this death would have been much worse...

Having lived in Kansas most of my adult life, I lived in Lawrence and worked at Allen Field House Arena on the KU Campus. It's a gorgeous place and so full of life. Just seeing this happening virtually in front of my eyes puts me right there. Growing up in the 60's we learned about Atomic and Nuclear bombs, I wish this movie was shown at least 1 a year, every year to give warning to everyone to be vigilant and make sure this never happens. Thanks for redoing this and sharing it.
