The quiet, poetic language of the Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov which characterizes these two compositions will fascinate musicians and audience alike. In these pieces, both cellists communicate with each other so gently, that it sounds as if there is only one instrument playing. It could be compared to a cello 'for four hands’ rather than a duet.

Congratulations Maestro, your cellos are superb! #170 in the hands of Giovanni Gnocchi is gorgeous. Are there any videos of #208 being played?
It was absolutely useless. This manufacturer has not shown anything important. For example, what are the measurements and there are dozens of them on the bridge. What template shape does he use. What is the weight of the bridge. What note is in tuned. How he split the legs of the bridge when mounting on the instrument. And so on. It looks like it's showing us something but it didn't really say anything concrete and I thought it was a waste of time. And by the wy, the french model is widely unpopular on modern cellos and in the end , he even didn't tried the sound of the instrument. So he stolen couple of minutes from my life for nothing.
A wonderful Video in many ways ! I am really impressed by the precision and relatively fast action of all the handwork -- I. suppose it is a blend of skills and experience ! But to listen to Bach`s music in the background gives such a great connection to the time, when the models, which this cello is originated on to , where built ! Fantastic craftsmanship and the spirit of an artist as well !!!

Grazie. What main dimensions/ thicknesses do you use for the bridge? And what knife do you use for carving?
Look up Henry Strobel for his book on measurements as well as making of, cello, violin & viola etc. He has included fractional instrument measurements as well which is very helpful for setting up those instruments.
@@rossthefiddler5890 it is not true. No one is using standard dimensions except on students models. Luthier selects material of the bridge individually for each instrument, he is selcting french or belgian model for each instrument individually and he adjust clearance of the strings and other very important details for the customer needs. And he make a lot of sound checks and adjustments when tuning the tone of the bridge and these wer not shown at all. And these are made on varnished instrument, not on white.
@@rofo2107 Oh please, there is a standard to base those 'fine tuning' aspects around & Henry Strobel was an engineer & therefore quite methodical & why he produced his publications. You obviously have never read his books, so don't go saying "it is not true".

Would (respectfully) disagree. I've heard Bashmet live in Toronto, at which time he was playing the Testore (at least according to the program notes), and the viola sound in this video still sounds like Sire Yuri...
