Crowd’s bouncing huh? What the actual FK? Jeez Rave to the Grave wasn’t supposed to be taken quite so literally. I mean back in 91’ or 92’ with a track (tune/whatever) like Mayday the place would be bouncing be it a smaller club or at an all nighter such as The Forum in Livingston or The Royal Highland Exhibition Centre, Ingliston etc. The crowd here seemed to be about to enjoy an evening of light entertainment and a spot of soft drinks and snacks. I’ve only watched half of the set - I came to see Mayday Anthem playing to a modern crowd. The DJ was great although I’m a firm believer that if you are a true DJ playing ‘Rave’ then it’s just gotta be done with vinyl records and turntable decks ie Technics etc and a mixer. All this new gear is bloody incredible but it’s just not DJing or isn’t the skilled DJmanship that was the original 1990’s Rave that’s so obviously what spawned what’s the scene today. I understand using the new equipment is difficult but it’s leaned and tweaked with PCs it does ,it all for you and it’s still not good when compared with the likes of Carl Cox, the late great Tony De Vit and so many talented artists who homed their skills to becoming the best of the best. There is very little skill in pressing a button and once you know what buttons to press for that perfect mix every time. Just try matching beats and having the rhythm and timing to pull off a great mix without all that and attempting to keep it all perfect and the knowledge of tracks/tunes to blend tracks together making them sound like one while teasing and exciting a tent,warehouse,exhibition centre, town hall or club etc. Now that’s talent.
