You won't believe this, but when I was a boy, our Australian garbage trucks were similar to this. However, the garbage in those days wasn't bagged, and the garbage "tin" was emptied directly into the truck. All garbage was loose and not separated as it is today. One man would stand in the back of the truck and catch the bin as it was thrown to him by a "runner" and then throw it back after it was emptied into the truck. There was usually a 4-man crew on each truck with 1 driving, 1 catching, and 2 runners/throwers. The bins were called garbage "tins or cans" and were made of tin and were very heavy. Eventually, they were made of aluminium and were lighter and called garbage "cans." Eventually, Mr Richards invented the side loaders that we know today, and then the "wheely" bin became more common around the world. Prior to the side loader, the rear loaders became popular and are still used to this day. Great capture. Well done 👏 👍
@@aussiejohn5835 yeah my dad always tells me about the rear loaders when he was little doing the metal bins and bags of rubbish on the side of the curb and people hanging off the back I wish some places still did that would be cool to see and then he said when he was abt 15 ish to 20ish the sl came around and that’s when all the sulo 2 where rolled out for the recycling and still many around to this day which was cool.
@yourlocalgarbo They were good days, and many NRL players were garbos because they used it to keep in shape, and there were no high salaries from the clubs.
