This and the previous mission would’ve been a lot better if we fought alongside Brutes and against humans. It would’ve added some much needed enemy variety into the Arbiter’s repetitive sections, it would’ve been the perfect opportunity to show the player what it’s like to fight on the other side of the Human Covenant War and how we (humanity) were able to largely hold our own in ground engagements, and it would’ve made the eventual human Elite alliance feel far shakier and like one of desperation. Plus, if we got to see Sentinels fighting alongside their Reclaimers who can naturally interface with Forerunner tech that’s unresponsive to other species it would’ve been a truly PHENOMENAL way to foreshadow what Bungie had planned (check out my boy C3Sabertooth’s videos animating Halo 2’s storyboards, including the INSANE ending we would’ve gotten where the Arbiter would’ve had a complete character arc, Truth’s plan actually made perfect sense, and we would’ve seen the “big reveal” that explained what the Human Covenant War was started to cover up). Having Brutes on the player’s side would’ve been a great way to show what they’re capable of before you have to fight them, it would’ve made their eventual betrayal leading to the Creat Schism feel far more impactful if Brutes and Elites were fighting. They also would’ve felt more like a proper member species of the Covenant if they were actively involved in the mad dash for the Index, instead of just kind of being there until Bungie needed a new enemy type to throw at the player. You should check out Vengeful Vadam’s Halo 2 Uncut mod that adds back various cut encounters, dialogue that went unused, and adds the Juggernauts to the Flood levels. It’s really cool and worth checking out. The balancing is pretty bad, but that’s by design because the mod is basically an amalgamation of how older versions of the weapons/vehicles worked. It’s a really interesting looking into what could’ve been. There’s some things that would’ve been great additions that enhanced the story/gameplay, and other things were atrociously bad and it’s nothing short of a miracle they got cut. MCC’s system requirements aren’t very high and will run on a decent laptop since most of the games in it came out for the original Xbox/360.
