The Sound: CT Rail P40DC Diesel Locomotive Vestibule Recording (Part 2) | GE chug | Hartford Line

Filmed on Aug 15, 2021 onboard CT Rail train 6401 from Hartford Union Station to NH State Street. The conductor was nice enough to let me film at the vestibule right behind the P40DC locomotive, which typically runs on Shoreline East but has seen quite a bit of action on the Hartford line as well. The sound made by the 7FDL prime mover, exhaust fan, etc was unmistakable.
Enjoy the classic GE chug and K5LA horn :)

Caltrain cab car 112 leading train number 511 northbound L5 service is seen here entering, loading at, and departing Palo Alto station. MP36PH-3C locomotive number 926 provides power to this trainset. Pay attention to the idling sound while in the station and when the EMD645 prime mover was revved up as it left for San Francisco.

Filmed on Jan 1, 2020 at Cold Spring, NY. Note in the first clip that the loco actually slipped backwards after brakes were released, and only when the wheel began turning in the right direction did the diesel prime mover go up to knotch 8. Enjoy that classic GE chug :)

Shoreline East commuter rail Mafersa consist filmed at New Haven and Guilford Stations. I caught ConnDOT P40DC No. 842 on my way to and from Guilford on the afternoon of May 8, 2019. Engine start: 0:07 and 1:06; Takeoff 7:40 Taken with my iPhone 6s Plus in Aug 23, 2017 onboard a Southwest 737 from BNA to LGA. The video features some quality engine starts, taxi footage, and a good CFM56 buzzsaw on takeoff. If you look closely enough, we took off from Nashville after a fighter jet had landed. Throttle up/ Takeoff at 6:30. Recorded in row 1 onboard WN4080 from LGA to FLL (NY LaGuardia to Fort Lauderdale), with perhaps the best CFM56 spool-up and buzzsaw I've ever heard. Filmed on my iPhone 6s Plus before I had to catch my New Haven line train on Mar 12, 2018 (hence the hasty ending). This is such a rare approach. This approach is the reason I always choose a window seat on the right side of plane whenever I fly into LGA.
Low key I thought the constant wheel rolling sounds were a part of some pilot sets. I didn’t know it was just supposed to clatter occasionally. I ridden them and they sounded less than that, and I realize now.

That’s nice that the conductor was willing to let you ride by the locomotive. I wonder if this is one of the last un-rebuilt units. Btw, you will no longer see diesel trains on SLE; the M8s have taken over.
The P40DCs should be all on the Hartford Line now. Shore Line East is now operated with M8s.
5:10 it sounds almost like HITACHI Class 800
I've noticed that if I click *Do not recommend channel* or *Not Interested* (usually from more popular channels) on a suggested video from a channel I'm not subbed to a couple of times, I get recommended interesting videos like this one. Which is nice.

The trains are too loud & that when the engine comes near me, I have to cover my ears!
Suggestion when you heat the P32 Engine coming make sure you have headphones or earbuds in it’ll help a lot
@@scytheyt4051 nah I agree, they used to scare me too, even though an engine just going past you isn't the problem. Sometimes too loud scares you bc it seem like somethin goin wrong.
@@railfannerjs6308 it used to scare me going past me cause while I was listening to my calm M3A’s, M7A’s and M8’s out of actually no where a P32 would come behind me without honking the horn and skip Harlem 125 St but they would honk it half way to the platform aka where I was

As of December 2021, all the ME diesel-electric and EA electric locomotives have been replaced by Siemens Vectron electric locomotives. So no more big diesel-electric locomotives underground. The MF (IC3) and the few MG (IC4) that still work will however continue to run until 2025+, likely longer as the electrification of west Denmark is taking far longer than it should

My 2020 VW Jetta sounds like this when I have the AC cranked on full-blast! My nickname for her is "Genesis II", while my 2014 VW Jetta was named "Genesis" for the same reason! Lol
You know what's funny? Genesis II is also the name given by GE to the P32AC-DMs which are locomotives use by Amtrak and Metro-North

Shoreline East is contracted by Amtrak, so I didn't even understand why they changed the others for Connecticut Commuter Rail. Makes no sense for me :P

I only remembered to whip out the camera when I sensed the plane tracking this approach on the Fltplan app - no way I'm gonna just sit and watch this approach
Flown once into (derelict) LGA (from MCO) and we got so lucky with this exact approach path by night, it was incredibly beautiful! It was on a JetBlue A320, September 10th 2016 after a stay at WDW and Universal and 3 days before our flight back to Paris on Air France with an ultra silent A380. We were so blessed!

Absolutely, and there's really no reason for it. Thankfully, they are being replaced by Vectrons.

@@coolsadface3444 It's the diesel loco part I'm commenting on, not the underground station thing. I'm from Copenhagen and use this station often.
@@MrAskeKaiser Its because there are no bi modes in Denmark and loads of lines are not electrified and it saves alot of time compared to having to change locomotive whenever you change between electric and diesel lines.
