Quite a story. It makes me so sad that this man suffered from terrible depression. I suffer from that terrible disease also. Thankfully, I have a good psychiatrist Who monitors my medication. I am so thankful for that.

Gene battled depression for many years, sadly committing suicide in January, 1995.
For those who have not experienced grave physical or mental suffering, they probably have not lived long enough. Somehow, we must endure and continue to be grateful to God. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states in paragraph 2280, "God [is] the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls. We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us. It is not ours to dispose of."

Truly a golden voice. Much appreciate.
One of my favourite songs from childhood.I like the extra lines in this version of the song which help to make it clearer. Also the "other " being female in this original, helps separate the "snow bird" from the person, which becomes confused in other versions.
