What is Child-Led Learning and 3 Big Misconceptions
Просмотров 6 тыс.8 месяцев назад
I'll take you through a common question, "What is Child-Led Learning?" While also covering some common misconceptions. The 3 big misconceptions include: 1. Child-led learning is a free for all. 2. There is no circle time. 3. There is no teacher-directed activities. Another common question I cover is, "What does the educator do?" and "Do you use packaged curriculum in child-led learning?" In thi...

The Art of Adaptation: When Play Invitations "Fail"
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Sometimes, the children are not engaged in the play invitation you set out. Sometimes the spark isn't there. I don't always get it "right" because when I am uncovering a child's interest, it takes trial and error. It takes observation. In this video, I take you all along as I show you a play invitation that "failed" and what my response was to that. I am here to show you all sides of being chil...
Kneading Connections: The Social Side of Salt Dough Play

This week I'm expanding on the play I witnessed last time. In the previous session, Wendall took the play dough and the salt dough and brought it over to the house keeping area. This time, I added more authentic and unique tools to use with the salt dough, and put the salt dough directly in the house keeping area. Watch along and hear my thoughts as I observe this week's play and continue to re...

    How many children do you have at your centre each day? Is each of their learning plan so carefully designed? Just wondering about the organisation side of it all, keeping track and time for planning and implementing. Is it a plan for each child you are juggling or are their common themes that come through and then one offs like the noodles provocation that crop up every now and then? Please and thank you! 😊

    What a lucky lad, to have someone so thoughtful and caring watching his play, and curating items for his next session. It’s as if you have looked right into his soul, and brought the ideal materials out. I have made mountains of the pasta bows, and often give it away to like minded friends, in pretty jars. It’s very easy to make, and something great to create while watching training or summits to keep your hands busy!

      Oh my gosh! I love it! Jars of felt pasta bows! I am excited for the coming videos as we feature other children and how I support their play motivations. But I think it is important to know that we have limited time and resources and everyone in the room benefits when we support one.

    I'd like to know more about the adult's engagement in the children's play. Yes, observation is important, but are we also part of the play in engaged ways?

    • @WunderledTeaching
      @WunderledTeaching 8 месяцев назад

      I think there are different perspectives on this and contexts. In my space, I am working to support and provide everything they need as they are playing without interrupting their flow. There are times when it is natural and immediate to engage - but I personally do not interrupt unless invited or providing support. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

    • @laurieparker9073
      @laurieparker9073 8 месяцев назад

      Yes, it's the balance between interrupting and engaging that I struggle with. How do we know when or if it's appropriate to step in? Is it our role to prompt thinking or will the children reach their own learning in their own way? It's tricky.
