What depth should the drill press be set to when drilling the pickup cavities?

Certainly, a better nut is a worthy investment. But most guitarists *remove the pickup covers in order to get a bit more volume and bite, but you spent money and time to do the opposite! Moreover, they are very cheap pickups that should be sufficiently sturdy to withstand normal wear and tear. Myself, I might consider shaping and permanently gluing the neck. And recontour the back of the neck to play better. Thanks for the entertaining vid. 😂

Tonight, mid November 2024, I remove neck on mine and after all precautions, I did level the frets. And then the routine care that any neck deserves. Now the action is low as guitar strings can go.Zero neck relief. Zero buzz. Maximum playability. I replace NOTHING. Unnecessary! Epi Special 2 LE is a very fine instrument.

Its a decent guitar, for about 50 bucks more you could have found one with 4 knobs and the pickup selector where it is supposed to be.

I've got a cream Mexican Telecaster with a maple neck and it's my go-to lately for just looping and goofing around. Bought from a buddy years ago for a couple hundred. A good friend put one of his handwound pickups in it. It's got a great bite for older alternative offbeat growling indie kind of stuff. I've been working on it and "bonding" with it the last few weeks. It's a good instrument once you get it set up and dialed in.

I considered buying one of those because of the sonic blue action too. They need to do some cool fender colors in regular size. Seafoam green would he cool.

Went into GC one day, not planning on buying anything. Saw this on a short wall of demos for $78. I am so happy with it! I’m not a fan of Paul’s mainly because they are so heavy. This one weighs half of a Paul. Waaay cool!

Don't be offended but the Telecaster must remain a Telecaster, not with all those flowers. Anyway, congratulations on your effort. But all those colors are not good.

Excellent advice. I bought a used Squire CV Telecaster Thinline about 10 years ago, and it's probably my most played guitar. Also, have a Katana. Also have a US Strat and a pair of Martin acoustics, but the Tele and Katana are really all I need.

Fender has absolutely made a tele with P90’s as part of player series. I had one. Thinline semi hollow body. Played amazing

I wish the specials were more easily available in cherry burst. I prefer that. I do have an Epiphone GT, which is a variation on the special, and I love it. I replaced the pickups with humbuckers from an Epiphone DOT and I think it sounds fantastic.

I have tele with a strat neck and p90 in a humbucker size. That is a good choice.

Me and my band supported Chris Shiflett on his solo tour a few years ago, and I was lucky enough to gear-nerd with him a bit before the show. He played two of his signature Telecasters with P90s. Incredible guitars. Fender Custom Shop.
