California Zephyr at Chillicothe, Iowa
On 7 December 2022, the muted colours of an Iowa winter provide the backdrop to Amtrak train no 6, the California Zephyr (from Emeryville to Chicago). Running nearly three hours late, it is captured here passing Chillicothe, a few miles from its next stop at Ottumwa.
The unusually short formation - a single GE P42DC (no 33) hauling six double-deck Superliners plus a baggage car - may be a symptom of the difficulties Amtrak are reported to be experiencing maintaining their ageing Superliner fleet, many of which date from the 1970s.

On 5/9/2019 the eastbound California Zephyr passes through southern Iowa with the Cyrus K. Holliday Business Car attached to the rear. This Amtrak service runs daily from Emeryville to Chicago and is seen here running around two hours late between Albia and Ottumwa (its next stop).

This must be recognised as one of the major British concerto’s.
I agree, but sadly it does not seem to have had many performances, nor much radio play (unlike Durham Concerto)

Some people play air guitar, thanks to Jon I used to play air Hammond organ.
It is just unfair to put any vocalist in line with Bruce Dickinson. Such a power, and natural emotional delivery! Perfect match to the original Ian Gilian's 1969 version. And Jon Lord's cadenza... pure music, no show off, comes from what was before and introduces the following episode, calmly dissolving into it.
