Switched Mode Power Supply (SMPS) Ripple Voltage
In the video “Measuring Ripple Voltage in SMPS : A Practical Guide” (ruclips.net/video/aTpO2VT8qKo/видео.html) , the ripple voltage caused by the switching action in the Switched-Mode Power Supply circuit is measured.
This video focuses on the low frequency ripple voltage, primarily influenced by the mains frequency within the SMPS circuit.

Measuring Ripple Voltage (caused by the switching action) in SMPS: A Practical Guide
Просмотров 58021 день назад
The ripple voltage is a crucial parameter to consider in Switched Mode Power Supply operation. These ripples are primarily caused by the switching action within the SMPS circuitry. In this measurement, the ground spring is used to reduce noise in the measurement.

In this video, we'll measure the GPIO set and reset time of an STM microcontroller using math operations on an oscilloscope. The clock speed of this STM microcontroller is 72MHz. When the XOR operation is applied to two waveforms representing different states of a GPIO pin (e.g., high and low), it produces an output signal that is high only when the input signals differ. This characteristic mak...

    Video isn't needed. If you have a scope and you want to measure the ripple voltage, then you 1. Know how to connect the scope and adjust the timebase and vertical scale, 2. You decide where you want to measure, usually at the output of the PSU. These are things people decide for themselves, they don't need a video to educate them.

    Not sure what hese numbers represent: full loop cycle or a single pin set time. Also, what is the processor clock frequency? In any case, the numbers are not impressive. 8MHz loop at 72MHz clock yields 4 clocks to set/reset the pin +1 clock for the loop back. I was expecting a single clock performance.

    Yep, looks like a healthy flyback transformer you've got there. This is a valid measurement method, but this is probing through capacitive coupling (dV/dt) not induction, as you don't have loop at the tip (e.g. clipping your ground lead to the probe tip).

My old analog scope made by BK Precision had a user manual with great suggestions and instructions - like how to fix old CRT tvs and HiFi stereos. But no crystals. Should I just hook up the probe to either of the two pins from the crystal?

    • @runforitman
      @runforitman 2 месяца назад

      depending on a lot of stuff (frequency, voltage, impedance matching, loading, parasitic capacitance, and even just what you are intending to find) you can sometimes just directly probe the crystal you're more likely to run into issues on older, not high end, oscilloscopes with loading and such

    • @Alpine_flo92002
      @Alpine_flo92002 2 месяца назад

      Probably wont work as the capacitance will load down the signal. Here its possible because the crystal is driven by a driver circuit

  • @Ma_X64
    @Ma_X64 2 месяца назад

    f103 used in st-link has quite weak crystal drivers. Especially for the 32768 one. So its output signal is more sine-like. The big guy has more powerful driver so it gives more square-like driving signal. Meanwhile input (mcu-wise) signals are almost same because they're determined more by crystals itself.
