S40 Steam Condenser Lid Test #2
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.2 года назад
This time I decided to use the original Grainfather S40 lid (which can be clamped down AND has a silicone gasket) with the Brewzilla Steam Condenser. I'm still learning a lot through this process but I think there are some minor adjustments to be made but this iteration is far superior than a couple of 13qt stainless steel bowls.
S40 Steam Condenser Lid Test

I finally had a chance to test out the Brewzilla Steam Condenser by Kegland. Since the Grainfather S40 doesn't have a dedicated Steam Condenser lid, I decided to make my own. It's ok but I think, in the end, I'll buy another S40 lid and use that as the Steam Condenser lid. Overall the steam condenser did do what it was supposed to do and limited steam in the small laundry room in the basement. ...

Thanks for the detailed view of the condenser! Does the water in the bucket produce steam? How much water does the nozzle consume?

Hey there, sorry for the delay in responding! :) - The water in the bucket is "warm" but not hot enough to produce any steam. Over the course of a 90 minute boil the water used is about 10-12 Gallons (about 35-45 L total). It's quite a bit of water for sure; BUT - the water I collect is then used to clean the grainfather after the brew day. The S40 (and I think most grainfathers) use a "Clean In Place" (CIP) solution. The water that's collected is put back into the grainfather after the brewday is over, PBW (or any other cleaner such as Oxiclean Free) is added to the water and it's brought up to approximately 130-140 F / 55-60C - once it's heated up - the water is recirculated using the grainfather's pump (and I have recently started using my chugger pump via the S40's spigot as well). This offers a decent solution of running a good cleaning cycle for the S40. Of course, this also means an equal amount of "rinse" water must be used after the fact.

2 things: 1) aside from placement of digital interface and lid and extra switch, looks identical to my brewers edge mash n boil, 2) what's the purpose of this device?

Hi 🙂 The steam condenser allows me to brew in the basement without having steam rise and get all over the walls / ceiling during the boil. My ceiling is only about 8ft, so without the steam condenser, I'd likely have to build a decent sized vent hood with a fairly strong (400+ CFM) exhaust fan and since I brew where our laundry is, a vent hood is not an option. The Grainfather S40 is Grainfather's "low end" 40L (10.5 US Gallons) system. The G40 is more like what most Grainfather users would be accustomed to seeing. There's not a lot of differences between most of these all-in-one brewing systems (i.e. Brewzilla, Mash & Boil, Grainfather, etc.) at the end of the day. They all are capable of making great beer! 🍻

Hey Raymond, my apologies on the delay in getting back to you - unfortunately the "delightful aroma" is not reduced, so you still get all that smell
