Absolutely wonderful ,,why can't governments ,town hall's ,leave well alone because when a ,town is orientated, its to a basic plan ,,a blank canvas built around,a river, rail system, workable roadway, to,import+ export,Sunderland it was a lovely thriving productive town, you don't chop change order and plan just for fashion,,and especially waste government money, the history, of our wonderful towns ,and country decimated,
I've never seen that picture of Wearmouth Bridge, didn't know the main arch was constructed around the old bridge. I love what Sunderland stands for, it gets things built, it gets it's hands dirty and grafts away. It's heavy and dangerous industry, ship's and coal and glass, it sets records, biggest shipbuilding town in the world.
Ah the Rink, used to go on a Tuesday night age 15 before I became a hairy, then it was the Mecca on a Friday for heavy music and rock bands, happy days, now I'm a baldy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't remember half of those shops or buildings, I was born in 1954, but I do remember Palmers arcade, I got a 5 speed racing bike from there one Christmas, Willie Watson's sports shop, there was a record shop in there also, a toy shop that sold Action man accessories and of course the Dalmatian dog that patrolled after the gates were locked for the night. I lived in Randolph street, Hendon at the time. Palmers was a great place to go when armed with a ten bob note birthday money, it felt like a lottery win.
Its Absolutely ''a crying shame' our town as been crushed, dismantled, sold off,all of our industry's shops pubs clubs'. everyone driven in to the ground etc etc, with taxes, rates licences, permits, PC, health + safety, double yellow lines, etc etc'''beautiful strong buildings knocked down replaced by a cardboard city''the whole town centre ruined by fancy Dans that knew absolutely, ziltch ,zero , nothing ,about anything,
Absolutely beautiful'''its such a crying shame''' replaced by shit'' and 'everyone' 'whatever party,'that was in power' including councillors 'anyone making decisions'' should have had to pay back every penny''for the beautiful buildings pulled down. 'to the shit they built
Wow . Great pictures of Corby Hall.Me and my brother and mates used to play in there when it was anything on Green Terrace School mate? I remember the teacher's Mr Smith Steinberg and the headmaster Mr Andrews. They were strict but spot on.
Thank you! I feel angry every time I see the Town Hall. Were the incompetent blithering fools responsible for it's demolition ever brought to justice for their heinous crime I wonder?
Oh happy days ... 😀👍
Great photos reminding me of a great time gone by 🙂 Cheers 👍
Nice, interesting and some good memories👍
I miss Sunderland 😘👍

MrBlueSky474. Don't they think they were. That was a brilliant building it said the town had status.
Nice collection thank you, however I am puzzled at how Sports Direct qualifies as old Sunderland?
There is nothing until you get to 3.25?
Thoroughly enjoyed this collection of nostalgia Freda thank you! Any more?
Nice collection Dave!
Nice one John! I used to work in Waterloo Place but Alfred Brass furnishers must have come long after this as the frontage is completely different.
Wow.... very good.... I live in the US now but my mam would have remembered all this. Well done!!!
