That meant my husband could not even smoke a cigarette, cigar, or a pipe around me. Moreover, after our daughter was born, her doctor told my husband not to smoke in her presence due to a new research study that confirmed that inhaling smoke of any kind causes respiratory illnesses, including asthma in babies and could cause death in infants. This was in addition to discovering that inhaling second hand smoke causing cancer years earlier. One time, the doctor even threatened to have my husband arrested because he smelled cigarette nicotine or cigarette smoke on him. There had been a law passed that makes it illegal to smoke around minor children. Approximately, a decade+ later, one of my daughter's best friend's mother almost lost her baby and was almost arrested because her baby had to be rushed to the emergency room because he was having difficulty breathing. It turned out that he had developed asthma. The doctor asked her mother did she smoke, and she lied, as she answered no. So, the doctor told her it was her responsibility to keep any and everyone who smoked away from her baby. The doctor admonished her that the next time her baby suffers a respiratory attack like that, he would report her to CPS and have her baby removed as well as have her arrested. My daughter's best friend came to my house so very upset because she literally watched her mother almost inadvertently kill her baby brother and lied about it to the doctor.
