Bibliophiles unite!
If you believe in reading whatever you want to read, whenever you want to do it, instead of chasing the new popular thing or solely sticking to "real literature" such as classics and non-fiction books that "will actually teach you a thing or two",
If you believe that reading is reading, whether it's a physical, audio or e-book,
If you realize that sometimes the hobby of collecting books can overshadow the hobby of reading books (because let's be honest, buying a novel takes way less time than reading one),
If you like to talk about books and share your honest opinions in an open-minded way,
Then this is a space for you.

Psychological Thriller Done Right
People say that the "overnight success" is usually years and years of hard work that finally reaches the attention of the masses.
And while I am sure that Freida McFadden have had a loyal fan base for as long as she has been publishing her books, there is no doubt that "The Housemaid" is the novel that truly made her recognizable worldwide.
Today, however, I do not want to talk about "The Housemaid". Instead, I want to discuss with you the very first book of hers that I have personally read and that made me fall in love with her writing. So off we go!
Keep in mind that this book review does include both spoiler free & spoiler reviews.

2023 Wrap Up - The Bad, The Good and The Awesome
Просмотров 97Год назад
So the time has come to wrap up one more wonderful year of reading. And to commemorate 2023 I looked back to the 105 books I have read last year, picked out the ones that stood out the most (in a positive or negative manner) and compiled this little video for you guys! I kept my thoughts precise and spoiler free, and I do hope that my thoughts on these novels will inspire you to give some of my...
Where the Crawdads Sing is an Absolute Perfection

I am sure that by now everyone who was even remotely interested in "Where The Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens has already read the book or, at the very least, has watched the movie. Well, not me... I don't know about you, bet when it comes to these popular, "must read" novels, once they reach a certain level of recognition, I start to see them EVERYWHERE, to the point where I feel exhausted of th...
When a Romcom Meets Greek Mythology

Not gonna lie, I knew absolutely nothing about this book or about Bea Fitzgerald before I decided to buy this book. I haven't even bothered to read what this book is about. It didn't matter! I knew I'm going to read it... because noticing it for the first time was nothing short of "Love from the first sight". I'm obviously exaggerating, but look at it! That the type of book that stands out. And...
If We Were Villains or a Unique Story of Seven Flawed People

Now I can't say that I do read a lot of novels which could fall under the Dark Academia umbrella, so I might be completely wrong here, but... If We Were Villains felt like a story I have never had a chance to read before. It was unique and atmospheric, and reading it felt like a completely new experience. That being said, If We Were Villains wasn't a very easy read for me, it felt draining at t...
From Blood and Ash - a Romance or a Fantasy novel?
Просмотров 107Год назад
A long while ago I got asked to make a video about From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout.... and even though it might have taken me roughly a year to get to it, it's finally here. Better late than never, so to say. Right...? Truth be told, I read this book back in 2020 while on a road trip through Norway. I got hooked on it badly enough that in a matter of couple of weeks I was done with...
Haunting Adeline is Infuriatingly BORING
Просмотров 305Год назад
So the day has finally come for us to check out the one and only - Haunting Adeline, by H.D. Carlton. To tell you the truth, I had pretty high expectations, when it comes to this novel. I heard about it in a discussion on "truly twisted, one of a kind dark romance stories" and I was instantly hooked. The fact that the book is constantly sold out in the local bookstores, just added to this hype....

Do not waste your time. Laced with stupidly foolish references of racism and liberal ideology
I've been halfway through the book for days, just because I don't want to abandon readings this year. But it's hard to get me interested in this book. 😅 I agree with your review, thank you.
Ohh, I know the feeling! The time I wasted finishing the books I didn't enjoy. But I simply can't DNF them 🤦♀️😅
graduation actually
Omg, you are _so_ back! ❤❤❤❤❤ Btw, congratulations on the new house 🎉
Thank youuuu! Glad to be back 😁❤️❤️
Congratulations on your house and so good to see you again! Can't wait and have fun in your own library ❤
Thank you! ❤️ Not gonna lie, my library is my little personal playground 😁
You're back! ❤
agreed
This book is extremely boring, I can't see a connection between the story and the characters. For me, it was a total waste of time
He even acknowledged that she didn’t give consent and just said “it is what it is “
I was so excited to get this book. I’m on chapter 24 . I don’t like Zade. I don’t understand why the girlies are hype over him because he’s a literal creep. And Adeline… is just plain stupid! Although I feel sorry for her because she didn’t deserve that treatment from Zade. It’s extremely disappointing that Zade works against pedophila and human trafficking but he does the same thing to Adeline.
I agree! Comparison to Stephen King is a big compliment.
I just started this book and I am half way through Hazels chapter. I am hooked! I'm glad I picked it up from my neighborhood library. Also I loved your review!
Yeah , why people still romanticizing zade meadows in 2024??? addie said NO multiple times. he raped her multiple times throughout the book and people romanticize him???? it doesn’t count as a romance if the love interest is a RAPIST. People need to STOP romanticizing rapists!
This was great! Love your review, I just finished the book and wow, it really lives up to its name.
SPOILERS I find this book more of a study than of a murder mystery, which is ok. Lots of things that happen are hard to believe. E.g. Camille's excessive scars, her sister's somewhat over the top "double-life" and the fact a cop of Richard's level take that long to solve the murder of two girls in a little town (one had happened in August the previous year) committed by a 12-year-old (at the time). Despite that, it was entertaining.
This is not really a rom-com cause it was 0% comedy and 100% boredom
Absolutely fantastic but you stopped reviewing or people stopped reading , I can't figure out🥹
Thanks for the kind words! ☺️ I did took a pretty long break, life got in a way, but I hope that in few months I will be able to start uploading my reviews on regular basis again ☺️
Honestly, I enjoyed that quite a lot. I thought some of the stuff was pretty funny. There were a lot of POVs, but I couldn't have it any other way. Now, I would recommend it to the appropriate person. The plot was all over the place, and I thought the judge bit was insane but funny. I'm glad she ended up with all of them instead of just one. 😂
Your eyes and voice are soothing! Thanks for the review!
I thought it was boring because I was a dude I'm happy I'm not he only who thinks this
I just stumbled upon your channel, and your videos are incredible! Keep up the good work 😊
I love time travel and I was so excited when I read what this book was about. I listened to the audiobook ( HUGE mistake because when the narrator was Bella it was beyond annoying). She made her sound like a valley girl. I listened to this in one day only because I needed to find out what happened at the end 5 years later. The whole book was a waste of time and I just didn’t like it at all. I cannot believe she had sex with him after her best friend died.
Just read this book and you summed up my feelings perfectly. I thought the beginning was awesome and creepy, then it quickly went downhill when it became a standard action fantasy. The effigies on their own didn’t scare me at all, the idea that some one or something was making them was scarier. The reveal of the manuscript and the world of the white ones was just boring. Didn’t hate the book, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected.
i read it quickly for a school thing and i also at first got the impression that dorian was just an innocent guy that got caught up with the wrong crowd but then on the second time i read it (this time in english) dorian seemed much more at fault than first i thought
Finally I kept seeing everyone raving about it. Exactly those two parts were the only 2 spooky parts. Well written but when everything about the effigies and Anna came about. It truly killed the book for me. I have so many questions about the whole world they lived in and the Anna stuff was all rushed. Also yes the manuscript wasn’t eventful in my opinion. I do think the book was an easy read until the whole Anna stuff started.
Thank you for posting this honest review. I gave up at page 406. It was terrible. I had to look up what happened in the end and it certainly shouldn’t have taken 640+ pages to reach that point.. since I have nothing nice to say about this book. I will end my comment here. 😂
I didn’t like Dannie since the beginning but the moment she broke David’s heart I hated her completely
Best book ever I have read.
Пес Патрон!!!
Very Interesting and inspiring video! I really like that you have pointed out the complexity of the formation of Dorian’s conducts. It is critical and well elaborated! Concerning the “boredom” you have mentioned, it might be a phenomenon of “fin de siecle” , a common decadent cultural phenomenon among late nineteenth century bourgeois. Lord Henry is quite a “fin de siecle” type and from the last chapter it could be evidently seen that he actually dare not to practice his aesthetic theory (maybe I’m wrong) and he is quite “envy” of Dorian (despite knowing Dorian’s sins). At that time, as far as I’m concerned, in Dorian’s eyes, Lord Henry might not a Mephistopheles any more but rather an old, wrinkled and tired man. He is striped off the cloth of a devil and be shown as a complex human. Over the years Lord Henry has been regarded as a purely diabolical type but it might not be totally true… Also, from some chapters it can be seen that Dorian’s childhood was full of loneliness and did not get enough attention, which might also lead his characteristics… It’s a really complicated question:) Even being a person with low English level, I still read this book and enjoyed it, and chose to write my high school thesis on this novel. It is an impressing work and full of Wilde’s own wit and attitude, though it became one of the very evidences against him in the court. The story is fascinating as well as complex, being open to interpretation… Overall, thank you very much for sharing your ideas! It is really helpful!
Thanks for such an insightful comment! A true pleasure to read! ☺️
"...the worst romance book I have read this year"....I just bought this book 😢
Give it a try! Just because it wasn't a book for me, it doesn't mean you won't enjoy it 😉☺️
@@bibliophileontheloose it's ok. I literally bought it for a storm blackout situation that lasts days or (God forbid) another quarantine/stay home Covidia situation
Haha better be prepared! 😄😄 Though let's hope none of these situations will actually happen any time soon and so you will not need to rush to experience all that Den of Vipers has to offer 😅
That's a pretty convincing opinion. That said, is it more convincing than the thought of the amount of books i've bought and not yet finished? I can't answer that yet and I don't feel the need to. But this book has definitely had it's place on the candidate list solidified. Now i just gotta get my reading glasses on.
Well, now I do feel the need to apologize for adding a new series to your never ending TBR! 😄
@@bibliophileontheloose Pffff, no worries. It's gonna grow anyways, you only contributed to my motivation to read the books on it. 😁
I liked the book! The dynamic between Poppy and Hawke and the plot/world! 😁
Same girl same 😶
Very insightful :)
I remember seeing the book on tiktok and someone hyping it up as a hot dark romance. Thank you for your service. We appreciate the time you sacrificed reading it to save us all from questioning our life choices.
Haha anytime! Glad to be able to help 😁
I have been struggling with finding books that I want to read because I am quite picky and reviews usually scare me away. I really love the way you construct your videos ♥ I think I will give this book a chance! (I stopped before the spoilers aaaa). I just cross my fingers this heroine is not a badass sassy one. I noticed some books in that genre have a heroine that is always loud and barks at everyone and that just usually makes me dislike the protagonist and give up. Amazing video!! I subbed and can't wait to watch all the older videos to see if I can find more gems!!
I'm so happy to hear that you find my videos helpful! Makes my day 🥰 As for Poppy, I would definitely define her as a badass, "can do all" type of protagonist, but there were layers to her character which I personally found interesting to explore ☺️ Enjoy your reading! Hope you'll find the book entertaining!
Is reverend brooks a lesbian??
Young people are very impressionable and especially when they don’t have any good role models to guide through life it’s very easy to get stray away from the right path. Its understandable how Dorian was impressed and influenced by Lord henry. Henry was very manipulative and full of toxic ideas. Still I don’t hate Henry as it was Dorian who made the choices in his life, despite feeling remorse for his actions from time to time. He kept on justifying his actions by blaming others especially Basil.
I thought it was a fantastic book, and I've seen there is a tv series coming too!
Is it? Haven't heard of it, but now I'm definitely looking forward to checking tv series out 😮
yes, it's not out yet though! I've also been reading Blake Crouch books! great thrillers @@bibliophileontheloose
Anything in particular you could recommend? 😁

The way my intuition never lets me download a boring book.. amazes me always
Thank you for saving my time. W🤭
Just came acoross this channel because of Eeny Meeney and I have to say that I just live how you make thise videos. Keep going ❤ This was my first thriller book and I though it was fun but I can understand where people come from that sometimes it was a little rough/ boring
Thanks @Raquelletje22! It's lovely to have you around my channel 🥰 These kind of thrillers can really be and acquired taste! If you did enjoy it though, I would absolutely suggest you to give And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie a try. To me, that's hands down the very best whodunit novel I have ever read 🤓
Have you read haunting/hunting Adeline yet? That duet got me in to DR.😅
Indeed I have, the first part. Working on a video for it now 😁 Though I can't say that I liked it... 😅 But then again, different strokes, for different folks 😉
@@bibliophileontheloose I found it slightly healing in the second book! It was definitely a tough read for me and I found myself putting it down several times because it was just… a LOT for me at least. Can’t wait for your video!!
I can easily understand how this book can be a lot for someone starting with DR. Instead of dipping your toes you dived in, head first! 😁 I personally have read quite a lot of DR (Penelope Douglas being my go to author) and while I believe that dark places in HA were daaark, I just found the overall story to be repetitive and the quality of the writing a little too fan fiction like. I guess I just expected more, because of all the hype 🤔 🤷♀️ And while I do have plenty of guilty pleasure reads that I love despite seeing all their weaknesses, HA just wasn't for me 😶 Welcome to DR though, hope you'll continue checking it out! 😊
I so agree with you. I wanted to hurdle my kindle across the room on the last page. Dannie was just terrible.
I found your channel through "The Picture of Dorian Gray" analysis and just wanted to say how much I appreciate your work. I was just looking for some book recs and your channel is my way to go - you should have tens of thousands of subscribers with all the fantastic work you do! Also, your voice is just perfect for this types of videos! So articulate and soothing. Thanks again!
You just made my day! 😍😁 Thank you for all your kind words, it's such a pleasure to hear that you find my channel helpful, that makes it all worth it ☺️
Nah this is pretty on point, shit is straight up terrible
you couldnt have described my thoughts better :)
Love the ball quote 'wtf' face 😂 I totally agree. How can someone even write that - and as a woman especially. Great review!
Thanks! Though maybe we are the problem 🤔 Maybe it's just me who has never experienced an orgasm just by popping "a ball" into my mouth 😶 You never know! 😂
