Webasto diesel heater burner replacement 2000, 3500, 5500, 40 & 55 evo
This is my seasonal rebuilding of one of our Webasto 55 EVO. In the tear down I find some bigger issues that need to be addressed but continue the rebuilding to show you how to service the burner in these style heaters. You may note that I skip over placing two components back on. The same day that I filmed this I disassembled it to replace the failed burner cup and heat sink with pieces donated from our third unit.

Our vacuflush bellows has worn out and split. Here I’m explaining the rough function of our vacuflush system and repair prep to fix the pump.

Short clip from the back deck, watch as the storm kicks up the boats in the backgroud
is it different for Air top 5000?
The 5000 is the older version it’ll look mostly the same but the parts don’t crossover as far as I know
@@deaconyates2671 Thank you. I see the parts are not the same. Yesterday I went to my boat and webasto did not run (fault 4). So I guess I have to change that glow pin (that is also flame sensor) and I guess that after more than 10 years of running in the winter maybe the burner may also be replaced...Did not know that I have to change the bolts as you mentioned in the video. Well... always smth to do:(
@@SailingMOYA after 10 years, you’ve done well, sounds like you need a burner kit,( burner, glow plug, gaskets, retainer and bolts), just check for cracks in the housings and sensors when you have it apart. Over time the compressed steel wool (lack of a better term) of the burner will expand and will touch the glow plug, it causes flame outs and no starts.
@@deaconyates2671 Thanks for reply. My wife dismounted it just now. It is located in a narrow spot (Jeanneay 43ds) and I do not fit in:) She had to cut the diesel line since both clamps (screws) were corroded and it was impossible to dismount the rubber, hose from the unit. For sure it needs TLC. So as you said, for sure I have to change the burner (that is a cost..)? What exactly is retainer? I think is not such a demanding job and I think I'll service it by myself... Thanks.
Tnxx, will start tomorrow! More confident now;)
Great, let me know if you have any questions, happy to help
Great video. I feel much more comfortable working on the unit now.
Good, happy to try to help. I'll try to answer any questions you have in the comments but this is my "business" channel and I'm typically on my personal account and miss comments on this channel
You're a great teacher. Thanks!
Thanks, hope it helped you.
@@deaconyates2671 Just followed your instructions on my Air Top 40, everything seemingly went fine, but when I hook everything up and fire it up it won’t start and gives error code 88 “Open circuit in fuel pump”. Any ideas? I unplugged and replugged the fuel pump connectors (both) with no luck. One thing I also did while it was opened up was replace the control board with one from an Air Top 55 to try and convert it for more heat. I am starting to suspect this won’t work. Any thoughts? Your help would be much appreciated!
@@mattsigman3551 I'm sorry I didn't catch this in time to help, but there shouldn't have been an issue with the up fit, however there are different fuel pumps and since the fuel pump acts as the metering device, the resistance detected by the new board was probably not within spec, so it threw a code.
Hi, i have and issue with my vacuflush system. Can we chat on whatsapp or other social site. Maybe you can help me. greeting from Poland .
This is very helpful. I just took apart my Airtop 5000D using these instructions. Some minor differences but the same concept. Where are you sourcing your Webasto parts? Prices seem to be all over the map and its difficult to find stock.
Did you ever do a 2nd video replacing parts?
I did, but the lighting was so bad that you couldn’t see what I was doing, so I scraped it. Next time the bellows blow and erupt sewage everywhere, I’ll see what I can do
Aww so cute
