Rebuilding the Firewood wagon

Building myself a Keezer

I decided to take the step from having kegs with party taps in my keezer, to having a keezer with a collar and exterior beer taps. I must say this is not the pretties thing I have ever built, and the Oak board I used was cut close to the pith so it had some major cracks that had to be dealt with. I got some new cameras, I am not very happy with them. They did not preform as I would have liked t...

      The Adzes are a colonial pattern bowl adze, which are modeled after chair adzes. Mine were black smith made by a blacksmith who has passed a way a few years back and I have not found a blacksmith that will make them like that frequently. The spoon gouge was given to me by the gentleman that taught me carving and I do not knew who made it for him. The crook knives seen in this video area generic brand I bought off eBay, I have since replaced with Moras.

    Nice work. I am new at bowl carving and have used a gouge, but want to buy an adze. Did yours come sharp ready to use? I looked on eBay as you mentioned, but did not spot one that looks like yours. Was it from Bulgaria? Seems like a lot of sellers from there.

    • @BigBBowls
      @BigBBowls 6 лет назад

      Mine did come sharp ready to use. Unfortunately, the blacksmith that made mine died about 4 years ago. I looked at the ones you mentioned on eBay from Bulgaria, they appear to be well made, I do have one adze of that style that I made myself, and it works just fine but the thin edge is more prone to sticking it the wood. I do recommend the forged ones over the mass produced ones.

    What kind of adze are you using? I'm looking to get one, but I find very few options online. Thanks! Amazing skill

    • @BigBBowls
      @BigBBowls 7 лет назад

      My adzes are hand forged from old claw hammers. I prefer this style of adze for its heft and shape. I find most blacksmiths draw the thickness or the blade out too much or put too much curve in the neck. I do know a few bowl carves that like that shape and style, it really comes down to personal preference. Ebay has 7 pages of adzes right now, with a wide variety of styles and prices. I found both of my adzes on eBay, Woodcraft has one they sell (but it is pricey), Etsy even has a couple. I recommend looking at several finding a shape and style you like and trying to chase down a blacksmith willing to make one for you.

    • @BigBBowls
      @BigBBowls 7 лет назад

      Having good hand-eye coordination is a plus. Otherwise, I try to keep my holding hand opposite of where I am chopping. Also with the style adze I use it makes it easier to swing more like a hammer and less like an axe. The chops are more of a downward motion and less of a sweeping arced motion.
