I'm an American don't ever go to California with that fucking nut of a governor
My wife and I have been in Portugal for 35 years, first in the Algarve and now in central Portugal. Amamos este pais e seu povo.
When one moves to another country, the first thing to admit is that it is a privilege one must never forget. I've been in Portugal for 6 years and sadly have met too many non Portuguese who carry a degree of arrogance & privilege simply by the fact that many of them are 'financially much healthier' than the average Portuguese. We must be aware that there are positives & negatives to foreigners moving into a new country. Issues such as causing an increase in costs of accommodation, especially in working class areas. The Portuguese are mostly incredibly friendly & helpful people but it is understandable that those impacted by foreigner's influence on such a basic thing as increasing local accommodation costs cannot be ignored.
Thanks for watching and for your comment. I agree! It's a privilege to be here and as foreigners who have been lucky enough to move here we should be grateful for the positives and be aware and sensitive to the challenges. I must say, for my clients from so many different parts of the world, they are aware of the issues that you speak of and I've never felt an arrogance but I'm also not in places where this may be more prominent.
The drugs!
Thanks for a fantastic conversation Nuno!
Good luck with your book... We moved to Portugal (the Algarve) in 2021 and love it. I started a RUclips channel a month ago which covers everything to do with food (restaurant reviews, cooking and gardening mainly).
Thanks for watching and good luck with your channel.
Wonderful journey❤ Goa is forever in our hearts as Portuguese; India was our first "baby" so we can never forget it. I visited twice and hope to visit India and Goa again B4 I die. A hear❤felt thank you from❤ Portugal, good enuff to visit and write about.TY Simple Life for bringing attention to our wonderful little Portugal. Greetings 2 RI and MA, especially to our emigrants living there and all over the USA and the 🌍 . Much love from Santarém, PT😊

That's wonderful to know about foreigners writing about Portugal. Specially when they study and they know about what they are writing. We are a small country, but with a lot to offer and a lot to discover. Starting with people. I'm glad you were happy here. Come again. I thank you both, Dylan and Christine for this podcast.
Thanks for listening! For me it's a pleasure to do this podcast
I am from Serbia, I love Marthas music. I did not know anything about fado I just stumbled on Marthas music on internet and fell in love with it. As for Benfica I do not know now what is going on in European soccer because of the commercialisations of the sport in general but I remember time when Eusebio played for Benfica those were good times for sport, that also give away my age. Go Martha, Go Benfica.
Thanks for watching! Marta is a treasure
Obrigado! Grande abraço
Thanks for being on the podcast Christine. It was a fantastic conversation

The Portuguese love patting themselves on the back. They were the pioneers of one of the worst crimes against humanity, which was the trans atlantic slave trade. They are friendly and welcoming to certain people. If they think you are from a former colony, they are not so welcoming. As a black American with no Portuguese in my history, I had to deal with the hostility many of them have towards black people. They have not always been so peaceful. There is no nice way to enslave and traffic millions for centuries. The "we are so loving" bs doesn't fool me. Sorry! They are special, alright.
When open your mouth is to say shi .....
Sorry to hear about your experience. I haven't heard of this happening and, in my experience, Portuguese are not arrogant and quite reluctant to pat themselves on the back. They are also quite open and honest about their past. Thanks for watching anyway and all the best
Hi @teddydavis2339, Thank you for sharing your perspective. Your feedback is valuable and helps us strive for a more inclusive, understanding and welcoming community for everyone. The legacy of European colonialism and slavery is well known, as is Portugal's role in it. To move forward as a country, it's important to not only acknowledge this complex History, but also the varied experiences people have. We’re sorry that your experience with Portugal was so different from that of our podcast guests, but as the great Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.” We hope you will understand why we are committed to sharing the love ❤
The idea that everyone in Portugal, or any other former colonial European country, is racist because of their country’s past is preposterous. Just as Germany’s Nazi history doesn’t make all Germans today Nazis, and not all Americans from the South are white supremacists, it’s unfair to judge an entire nationality based on the actions of a few individuals you were unfortunate enough to encounter 😞

Amazing story. I like this podcast. Actually Carnaval (Carnival) is a portuguese tradition
Thanks for watching Mario! It's a great tradition :)
Obrigado! Gostei e concordo! Abraço
painful to watch. you have no idea about the struggles that portuguese people have. getting better?! you ignorant!!!! have you heard about how the house market is destroying life quality? jesus woman
What's the word she uses around 8:40?
Desenrascados = MacGyver 🤣🤣
desenrasca-se - there isn't really a literal translation but it basically means to improvise on the spot and find a way. Or... yes. MacGyver :)
Thanks for watching! Make sure to subscribe to our channel while you're here! 🇵🇹
The "desenrascar" is a myth, it's another fucking portuguese decadent myth, just ignore that kind of shit, portuguese are perfect planners, attested by the success of portuguese things and we created the first global fucking empire of the History of Humanity, I repeat, the first global fucking empire of the History of Humanity, is such a thing even possible without planning?! It doesn't seem to me!
Thanks Mikaela for the 'sweet' conversation :)
Thanks for being on the podcast Hugo. I enjoyed talking to you
