1988-89 Gillingham v Racing Club Paris
What amazing memories.so many stand out players from an awesome season. Hess , Taylor, asaba, southall, lewis , Gooden, iffs and butts, and tommo was a super signing for 25 grand .
Wow the irony of scally saying we don’t need the police to tell us how to police a game just before the Fulham match. It almost makes you suspect the police let the two sets of fans out at the same time hoping to prove a pathetic point. I can’t imagine who got their wires crossed that it was announced that the Fulham fan was stabbed to death , when in reality it was an unfortunate one punch accidental death .by accounts told to me by witnesses it was the Fulham fans including the victim were the aggressors.
Looks like gills were robbed. Ref was appalling.
Atmosphere unbelieveable first two games we could have won ! One of many great times under a great manager abd great team !
Citeeee
The game that turned the season
As if Patrick Agyemang finished top scorer for both Wimbledon & Gillingham in the same season
The unfortunate reality was that Gillingham started the day in a relatively safe 7th from bottom, yet every team below them managed to secure crucial results. Tranmere, facing the easiest match among the four relegation-threatened teams, won comfortably at Stockport. Exeter, in the toughest match, surprised everyone by defeating Huddersfield, who were contenders for automatic promotion, with a 2-1 victory. Hartlepool, pulled into the fray due to a three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player-Gary Liddle, who received his 10th yellow card of the season during their 3-1 win at Leyton Orient-managed a draw at Brentford. Meanwhile, Gillingham suffered a dismal loss at Wycombe, who, like Stockport, were already relegated before the final day. Nick Halling accurately pointed out that these results should have been inconsequential; it was Gillingham's own disastrous away record that sealed their fate, with not a single win on the road all season. Despite a strong performance at Priestfield, where they took points from all the top six teams, their inability to win or even score away led to Mark Stimson's team being relegated back to League 2, just one year after Simeon Jackson had spearheaded their promotion through the playoffs. This marked their second drop to League 2 in four years, following a lackluster relegation in 2008, and resulted in Mark Stimson's departure from the club by mutual consent shortly thereafter.
They thought they were better than Fulham..😂😂
Amazing that Peter Peter Springett third division would be considered for England's goalkeeper. Well done you R'rrrs overcoming Gillingham. Picture quality poor but result great.
I was a guest with a free ticket, travel and a meal along with 3 Ipswich diehards who were constantly asking who are Gillingham well they knew at the end of the match, I was celebrating so much they said that I I didn’t calm it I would have to walk to Newmarket where I live, I thought about walking (38 miles) but then thought no I will just keep smiling 😂😂😂
As a baggies fan i was there, followed this win, with a win in the league cup at villa, happy memories
There was trouble, out side the ground. The Cricketers, fighting in the High Street and around the Station.
And it gave us a fu3king 1 star review but thats good for away people
We had some good teams at Gillingham over the years
I was at this game aged 12 I had my gills scarf nicked by wba supporters that was parked outside my house I cried all day bout my scarf never got it back !
so sorry to hear this. WBA fans are usually nice people. It was a great game- won near the last minute!
I subscribe becouse you you a gillingham fan
Anyone watching in 2024
I remember the run-in to that season 1970 -71. I went to the last game of the season at the old Craven Cottage versus Preston North End - taken as a 10 year old to sit in the Stevenage Road Stand. The result was 0-1 to Preston - a goal scored by Ricky Heppolette; and it meant that Preston were champions of the old Third Division - with Fulham as rumners-up. I always remember the pretty large crowd that day - about 31,000 I think; and the whole terracing area being packed - including the old Riverside terrace before the Eric Miller - Riverside Stand was built between 1972 and 1973.
Ho, Ho, Ho, Ho . Temporary. I’ve sat in it several times. Bloody awful !
Stayed up by wasting absolutely no time with draws :-D
John Terry’s first goal for Chelsea.
State of that pitch! I think the ball was actually going wide till the defender kicked it back into the Gillingham player's path for the goal.
This was the first ever football match I went to 🥹
A very talented player.
ofcourse it was bloody steve evans
Loved Maine Road
Buzzing that i just found this... Thank you
if anything actually happens with this stand I hope they keep the Brian Moore sentiment
Grimsby Town...only sing when they're fishing.😂 Old pics introduced by Fred Dineage of Southern Television! Those were the days. I'm a Pompey fan but love watching any old clips like these.
Colchester Saturday, after Gills won 4 games, 2:50
Hello from Indiana!
Get up those mighty blues
It was such a stupid thing to have happened.
Robbed by the ref……..again.
season 04-05
Can everyone pray that my sister finds a good husband to marry.
We should have beaten Wrexham the next game.
Good luck gills for this season.....miiiiiiiiiiiiii
Win 12 at home 0 away wins to go down to division 3
Gills won. Then I got punched in the face from behind at Burnley train station. I had to have an x-ray in Liverpool that night, but nothing was broken. Happy days!
My lowest point as a Gills fan at this game
The video went wrong, when he said "this is my club...."
Remember the Gills came to Ipswich in the eighties .It was a FA cup match,it was clearly obvious Millwall fans came to the game with the Gills and caused lots of shit that day.
Millwall have never come with Gills
@@adriangardiner3173 I met at least a dozen who did mate ,I talked to them in the pub.
Scrappy to say the least
Gills fan born in 81 here, never seen this before, thanks so much for the upload. Hopefully it won't be long before we see crowds of 16k+ again if Galinson invests in the ground. Anyone know why never walk alone was being sung?
Gills drew a very fashionable WBA side in the FA Cup 4th round in Jan 1982. It was a total sell out and we had to queue 4 streets to get a ticket (a week before the actual game). The Gills had a very good team- and WBA were very famous at the time for their flare. During that era Gills had Spurs and Leeds visits for league cup ties also. But the West Brom tie The Gills really took to and the crowd was chockers.
@@stewartwest347 thanks for the info. You hear a lot about the FA Cup match v Everton in the mid-80s but not so much about the other matches you mentioned
What a man this man is!
Unlucky gills
ruclips.net/video/-Oe9SjUlYJo/видео.html an ITV game featuring the Gillingham manager Keith Peacock playing at Preistfield for Charlton Athletic.. .
I was in the town end that day
